Tallulah or Jessica?

Our baby is due any time soon and we are still not decided on a girls name (have chosen a boys).

Jessica we like as it's traditional and flexible (able to shorten), but maybe a little too 'safe' as a choice.

We also like Tallulah, again an old traditional name and flexible, but we are not sure if it's a little bit too unusual.

Please shared some opinions with me to help us decide!

Jessie Wallace and the girl that was in Coronation Street - forgotten her name. That doesn't put me off though (we are going for Tallulah for our DC2). It is your choice in the end and who knows how names will sound in 20 years. Sophie was hardly around when I was called it over 30 years ago and look at it now....!

Other than Demi Moore & Simon Le Bon, what other celebrities have named their baby Tallulah, out of interest?

I don't especially like either, I'm afraid. Tallulah is very now and I think it is difficult to make sound serious as an adult.
And Jessica was the most popular name in the year I was born so I know far too many my own age.

MissingMyHeels · 21/04/2008 13:26

Much prefer Jessica - If you really like Tallulah then don't worry about it being unusual, lots of them around here (Surrey).

sweetkitty · 21/04/2008 13:25

I like both but would probably go for Jessica it was on our shortlist for DD3.

sophiebbb · 21/04/2008 13:24

Definitely Tallulah - it's girly but with attitude. Jessica boring.

evenhope · 21/04/2008 13:22

Tallulah isn't as unusual as you might think and is 607 in the Bounty names list for 2008. So don't discount it just because you think it might sound odd.

(it was our dog's name BTW )

I like boring and ordinary! I am very pleased that my parents didn't give me anything outlandish or a name that dates.

artichokes · 21/04/2008 13:19

I like Tallulah but I think that is because I knew a gorgeous little Lulah who I adored. Had I not known her I might think the name rather try-hard and trend-concious.

Squirdle · 21/04/2008 13:16

Have to say I like Tallulah best. Sooooo many Jessica's around.

Nancy66 · 21/04/2008 13:15

I really like Tallulah but I don't know if I'd be brave enough to use it.

Jessica, in my opinion, is too boring and ordinary.

jess1396 · 21/04/2008 13:14

Jessica, its classy and everyone i know always thinks its a mature name.. but most people call me jess, only use jessica if i get shouted at or someone is angry at me..

Lets face it, if we all start calling our kids strange names like celebs, whats the world going to come to? like calling baby moses or apple. just silly

But it be your choice..

good luck

VictorianSqualor · 21/04/2008 13:09

Jessica.
Tallulah just makes me sing 'my name is tallulah my first rule of fun....'

AbbeyA · 21/04/2008 13:07

Jessica-lovely
Tallulah-NO!

belcantavinissima · 21/04/2008 13:05

oooh no.

tallulah!!!! i think jessica is a bit boring. sorry. sorry if offended anyone. but then i am partial to odd names

Lizzylou · 21/04/2008 12:58

Very definitely Jessica.

AtheneNoctua · 21/04/2008 12:58

Jessica

Tallulah will always remind me of Demi Moore and her kids' weird names.

pickie · 21/04/2008 12:53

Jessica for me too (I have a Jessie though). Tallulah is very Maisy Mouse and trend sensitive imo

umberella · 21/04/2008 12:50

Jessica for me too. Don't like Tallulah at all actually.

branflake81 · 21/04/2008 12:39

Jessica. Tallulah is really.....not to my taste. And its nicknames are fairly childish.

cyteen · 21/04/2008 12:28

I like both actually. Jessica and all its short versions are lovely, Tallulah is v cool and can be Tally or Lula or Lulu or Tal or whatever.

suwoo · 21/04/2008 12:27

Sorry, round here there are a few Tallulah's and it is considered fairly chavvy. I know that word is hated, but there we go. So definitely Jessica.

lilolilmanchester · 21/04/2008 12:23

I never liked Tallulah at all but now know a lovely little tot with that name and it really suits her. Gets shorted to Lulah. Jessicas I know get Jess and Jessie so as long as you like both shortened versions. I wouldn't think of it as "safe". At the end of the day, once the baby is there and becomes a little person in their own right, their name will become part of who they are, whatever anyone thinks of your choices.
