My great grandma was called Maud and I always thought what an awful old name until the last few months and I’ve completely fallen in love with it!!

currently like;

Maude Elizabeth
Maude Penelope
Maude Vivienne
Maude Jacqueline
Maude Isabelle

I absolutely love old fashioned names 😅

what do you think

I really love it but for a cat.

EconomyClassRockstar · 11/09/2024 22:33

I like it, especially with the e. Although "Mardy Maude" popped into my head but I don't really know if people still use the word, mardy, anymore!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 11/09/2024 22:33

I really love it, but prefer it without the 'e'.

Katielovesteatime · 11/09/2024 22:32

I LOVE IT!!! Maude and Maud, I don’t care about the spelling. Maud/e Elizabeth and Maud/e Isabelle are beautiful. How about Maud/e Josephine?

MerryMarys · 11/09/2024 22:31

It sounds so harsh and unfeminine. Also too similar to Mould

hopsalong · 11/09/2024 22:31

Please don't use the e.

Maud is a great traditional but fresh name. 'Come into the garden, Maud...'

Maude is a mess. Even if your grandmother spelled it like that I would go with 'Maud' -- the two names sound the same, so you needn't be unduly aware of the different spelling.

TheOGCCL · 11/09/2024 22:30

I am not a fan either. It’s brutal especially without the ‘e’.

teatoast8 · 11/09/2024 22:28

Not a fan

PurpleChrayn · 11/09/2024 22:27

Dreadful. Sounds like someone retching.

AuntieMaud · 11/09/2024 22:26

It's never done ME any harm 😋

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 11/09/2024 22:18

Agree with @Moreteaandchocolate Not a nice name IMO. With or without an E on the end! I would never foist this name on a daughter!

Moreteaandchocolate · 11/09/2024 22:16

Sorry but I can’t bring myself to like it - it’s old fashioned and ugly to me (and I usually adore vintage chic names!)

maudelovesharold · 11/09/2024 22:09

I absolutely love it! Only to be expected….Wink

Pixiedust49 · 11/09/2024 22:07

Beautiful name. Elizabeth sounds lovely with it.

CanYouHearThatNoise · 11/09/2024 22:06

It's old-fashioned but in the same way as Ethel, Doris, Gladys, and Edna

BCBird · 11/09/2024 22:06

No

cocobeaner · 11/09/2024 22:05

My grandmother was called Maud (no e!) and when I was a child I thought it was the weirdest and most horrible name ever. Sort of like Mud but worse?

Now though, I think it's really cool - Maeve is a similar thing and now I love that name too. My daughter has one of these 'old lady' names and I think they have really come back around to being cool and a bit edgy. I can picture a teenage Maud now perfectly, whereas when I was young I would have been mortified to be called that. It's weird but I'd embrace it!

DayDreamer324 · 11/09/2024 22:03

I really like Maud Penelope
Sort of puts a younger spin on it.

I like them all tbh, I really like Maud.
Personally I would go with Maude, looks prettier.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/09/2024 21:58

I’d use it with the E if that’s how your Great Grandma spelt it (that’s the point of honouring family). Very retro/hipster cool in the style of Edith, Sybil etc. Maude Isabelle sounds lovely (Isabelle is a nice contrast to Maude as it’s quite frilly/pretty and a bit more classic sounding as well as popular).

Leafblow · 11/09/2024 21:50

Each to their own but I still think what an awful old name.
Makes me think of Maudlin.

I worked with a Maude who was in her late 80s she used to throw her glasses case at new staff who accidentally used her legal name, as she spent her whole life calling herself Jenny. She said Maude was dour and ugly and didn't suit her. I don't think she was wrong.

mum2jakie · 11/09/2024 21:48

Nah, not keen. Too similar to Mould

Firsttimebabymummy · 11/09/2024 21:47

Agree with the above that is lovely, without the E

I'd go Maud Elizabeth
Maud Vivienne would be 2nd choice

KirstenBlest · 11/09/2024 21:40

I like Maud.

MistyF · 11/09/2024 19:39

I do love Maud, but without e

SweatySpaghetti · 11/09/2024 19:32

I similarly used to think it was an ugly, frumpy name (along the same vein as Edith, Nancy, Blythe - which I love now too!)
I do absolutely love it now (which seemingly a lot of people feel too, which might see it become really popular- depends if that bothers you!)

Maude Elizabeth is my favourite from your list - it’s beautiful!
