My great grandma was called Maud and I always thought what an awful old name until the last few months and I’ve completely fallen in love with it!!

currently like;

Maude Elizabeth
Maude Penelope
Maude Vivienne
Maude Jacqueline
Maude Isabelle

I absolutely love old fashioned names 😅

what do you think

I am not a fan of frilly names but Maude is a bit too harsh sounding for me.

AuntieMaud · 12/09/2024 00:20

I'm heartbroken 😓

Sorry @AuntieMaud, are you called after someone?
I have often wondered if Maude was short for something?

AuntieMaud · 12/09/2024 00:20

I'm heartbroken 😓

Needanewname42 · 12/09/2024 00:09

For the record I don't like Cludia either similar clumpy vibe.

Needanewname42 · 12/09/2024 00:07

Seriously Op I think I might have just figured out why I don't like it.

It's either to do with Mods as in Mods n Rockers.

Or it reminds me of mud - without the e it's one letter away from Mud. If you are going to use it you need the Muade or she will end up a Mud, Mud glorious mud

Follyfooty · 12/09/2024 00:03

Who would look at a tiny beautiful little baby and think Hello Maud. Awful.

Needanewname42 · 12/09/2024 00:03

Daisybuttercup12345 · 12/09/2024 00:01

Awful. So is Ethel.

Ethel needs a toy dog called Willie. 😛

Daisybuttercup12345 · 12/09/2024 00:01

Awful. So is Ethel.

MrsQuietLife · 11/09/2024 23:59

I still find it a dreary name, like Deidre or Nora.

theduchessofspork · 11/09/2024 23:59

I like it, but I do think it’s marmite

I slightly prefer it with the e

Copperoliverbear · 11/09/2024 23:55

Love it, also love Elsie x

longdistanceclaraclara · 11/09/2024 23:41

Reminds me of the Worst Witch, not that that's a bad thing.

This (although I think it was without the E) . Great book series for young girls - and more useable than Mildred or Ethel!

Needanewname42 · 11/09/2024 23:53

It's very clumpy to me. Clumpy like someone clumping around.

Sorry I don't see the attraction to it.

SunshineAndCloudy · 11/09/2024 23:45

I’ve just read the bookbinder of Jericho and Maude is in there

longdistanceclaraclara · 11/09/2024 23:41

clarrylove · 11/09/2024 22:58

Awful, sorry. Apparently my father wanted me to be called Maud, after a relative, but thankfully my mother vetoed it. I mean, would you like to be called it?

hpertrophywife · 11/09/2024 22:45

Love it.

Viviennemary · 11/09/2024 22:44

StormingNorman · 11/09/2024 22:43

Mabel made a comeback.

That's just as bad. It will be Muriel and Doris next.

StormingNorman · 11/09/2024 22:43

Toddlerteaplease · 11/09/2024 22:39

One of the worst 'old lady' names there is.

Mabel made a comeback.

Viviennemary · 11/09/2024 22:43

It's dire. So unattractive sounding , harsh, clumsy and old fashioned.

StormingNorman · 11/09/2024 22:42

The only Maude I know is French and I think it’s lovely.

Maude Alexandra
Maude Elizabeth
Maude Isobel

Wonkywinky · 11/09/2024 22:42

Love it
Also similar is maeva

margegunderson · 11/09/2024 22:42

MerryMarys · 11/09/2024 22:31

It sounds so harsh and unfeminine. Also too similar to Mould

Unfeminine. Why do girls' names have to be "feminine"? Ick.

Sparklyhat · 11/09/2024 22:41

All I can think of is Maude Flanders sorry
