Swedish/fancy baby boy

Hi!
Swedish family due DS3 terrifyingly soon!
We have one little boy with a classic Scandinavian name, and one with an English aristocratic type name (think Montgomery, Peregrine,Hugo-style)

Would love some suggestions along either of those lines - Swedish et al, or just a bit posh :-)
Thank you :-)

How are Jasper and Kasper perceived in British or Swedish society do you think?
I like both :-)

Kaspar is obviously a variation of Caspar (the friendly ghost) so some older people will associate it with that.
Jasper is the name I was going to use when I was expecting a half swedey half british baby. Never got to use it, but I am still in love with the name.

I’m guessing you want something more uncommon than William - which is popular in both Sweden and the UK and if it’s good enough for the future King 🤣…

In which case Magnus seems to be the obvious one to tick both boxes unless you’ve got one already - but I don’t know if it’s considered a bit too “old man”. August might be another good option though as well as Casper, Gustav, Alfred, Julian, Felix, Vincent and Elias (although that one might have pronunciation issues).

Ludo?
Leopold?

Maybe also Linus?

Is a fancy baby boy different to the standard-issue type everyone else gets?

Edited

Massive eye roll.
Thought I'd managed to slip by your lot. Alas.

And you obviously know the answer to the question is yes - or would you happily name your children something like Mersaydees or Brixtyn?

Give me a break.

Magnus

theduchessofspork · 11/09/2024 12:50

Sebastian and Philip tick both?

Alexander is the other obvious one that ticks both boxes - so may Alexes around though - same for Oscar and Lucas

Nicholas/Nicolas (nn Nico maybe)

Hugo - I don't know if it's Swedish traditionally but I think it's quite popular there

greglet · 10/09/2024 14:50

Magnus, Torsten, Stellan?

Both Sören and Leif are much more working class 1940s/50s names so wouldn't choose any of those.

Other Swedish suggestions could be:

Valdemar
Nils
August
Valter
Finn

CheeseWisely · 10/09/2024 13:57

Having read above suggestions I actually think Sebastian ticks both of your boxes?

CheeseWisely · 10/09/2024 13:54

I really wanted Leif but it was a hard no from Swedish Husband! We also toyed with Otto, Olle and Mattias.

I think Thorbjörn is about the coolest name I've ever head but couldn't bring myself to actually saddle a child that lives in the UK with it (although coincidentally it was the name of the person DH spoke to when he called to find out how to register DS so we can get him a Swedish passport in the future).

I also like Lars but at the risk of outing myself it does not work with our surname!

Lunde · 10/09/2024 13:48

Posh names with aristocratic associations in Sweden include names such as

  • Carl/Karl
  • Erik
  • Fredrik
  • Henrik
  • Oscar/Oskar
  • Gustav/Gustaf
  • Johan

Or double names such as Carl-Johan/Nils-Oscar etc

Kaspar. I went to school with one who was Finnish although I think the name might be German.

pennypom · 10/09/2024 11:58

Ah, perhaps Konstantin is Russian, either way it doesn't feel quite right.
Fabian and Florian are gorgeous, but we've BOTH in the family already! 😂
