Lucy.
Such a classic and strong Christian name (St Lucy).
Bringer of light.

I hate that Letby brings shame to a lovely name, like Rose West ruined Rose for a while😔

MerryMarys · 17/09/2024 07:11

Actually now I can't unsee Letby from Lucy, so I'll go for Katie

Gowlett · 17/09/2024 00:10

Lucy.

2Old2Tango · 17/09/2024 00:05

I really like both but my preference is Katie. I wanted to use it but DH wasn't so sure. We settled on Caitlin eventually because it sounded a bit similar.

Neither Both too common. Go for something original.

Something'younique'?

Firebird83 · 16/09/2024 22:49

Both very 80s/90s

Hate Lucy reminds me of Letby now

Lucy is a lovely name and I personally wouldn't have associated it with Letby !Why even suggest that?

What a stupid comment. How am I supposed to know that the names I like are clearly different. Did it make you feel good making such a snotty comment.

It's not a stupid comment. OP has asked for help choosing between two short, two syllable names with the same endings. You've provided a list of long frilly options which bear no resemblance to her choices. You can see that easily by comparing Lucy and Katie with your list.

I prefer Katie (well Kate beat of all).

MerryMarys · 16/09/2024 17:59

Lucy

Fontainebleau007 · 10/09/2024 10:55

Lucy

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 10/09/2024 09:33

I prefer Lucy. I think I like Kate better than Katie as a name in its own right, but slightly prefer Lucy over both anyway. Lucy Kate would be a nice combination.

GreenTeaLikesMe · 09/09/2024 05:43

I like Kate as a given name. It gives her the option of Katie if she wants.

Newsenmum · 08/09/2024 20:00

Lucy feels more complete and sounds sweet but also grown up. To me Katie feels like a nickname and every other girl in the 90s.

HamSad · 08/09/2024 19:44

"Original" 🙄 what, something that no one else in history has ever been called?

HamSad · 08/09/2024 19:43

Lucy x 1000. Katie is so 80s.

kitsuneghost · 08/09/2024 19:37

Katie. Lucy is so overused

Beansandneedles · 08/09/2024 19:31

I like Katie, would spell it Katy though. Katie with an ie you're more likely to find your name on a mug at a gift shop but Katy you get the What Katy Did books 🤗

I know Lucy's aged 3 to 53. All the Katie's/Kate's I know are in their 30's. Be lovely on a little one!

NoGwenItsABoxingDayTrifle · 08/09/2024 19:22

Katie but I prefer Kate over Katherine or Katie.

oObyeOo · 08/09/2024 14:19

Daisybuttercup12345 · 07/09/2024 23:26

I know a few Katie's in their 30s and 40s. Definitely not childish!

I do too…

I meant that people no longer assume her name is Katie now she’s not a small child. That’s the only connection I can make why people did it. It did annoy me.

Rowgtfc72 · 08/09/2024 14:06

I have a 17 yr old Lucy. Her nickname at work is Goose. She loves it.
Lucy means light.

We don't have a Katie in the family, but we do have a Kate.

Namechanger124 · 08/09/2024 14:00

How about Lucy-Kate. I know someone with this name and think it’s pretty. You wouldn’t have to double barrel.

jackstini · 08/09/2024 13:58

Definitely Katie - more options of longer names, Katelyn/Caitlin, Katherine, Katrina, Catriona. Plus can be shortened to Kate or Kat if preferred

I can never say Lucy without adding 'lastic' on the end - it's something my Mum always said

MilkItTilITurnItIntoCheese · 08/09/2024 13:17

I hve one of each! Katie is short for Katherine in our case. Both had a couple of girls with the same name in their year groups. Both now teens. I also know if adults 40+ with both names. Don’t understand why people say they don’t suit adults 🤷‍♀️

FayCarew · 08/09/2024 13:07

@MSLRT It's not stupid comment. You have suggested names that are completely different to what the OP asked.
I'm not keen on your name suggestions and they are mostly long so will probably be shortened. I like Cass/Cassie

@Alongthepineconetrail , what's the point of using a different name if she's going to always be Lucy or Katie?

Lucia has the Lucy-a, Luce-ee-a, Loosha, Lootch-ee-a issue and the other names are from a different country.
Lucinda and Katrina are both awful.
The Katies and Lucys I know are adults.
