What’s baby #1’s name? Our first was called Oscar which I think is quite traditional / classic.. so when it came to baby #2 even though we loved Arlo / Otis kind of names it didn’t ‘go’.. so we lent towards names like Jesse / Beau / Jude as they felt like they went better together. Jesse is my favourite from yours but it was my #1 name this time around.

We really struggled with girl names.. Phoebe seems to be getting popular again at the moment but I do love it. Willa I also like. Sophie I’m not keen on but I think it’s because every other girl in my school was called Sophie, Gemma or Jessica.

VenusClapTrap · 07/09/2024 12:33

I quite like Willa.

They’re all very ‘of the moment’, except Phoebe, which was very popular as a result of Friends, so most are older.

RogueFemale · 07/09/2024 01:55

Willa - If you like this, then Winona is better (yeah, Hollywood shoplifter Winona)
Sophie - I love Sophie but I love Sibylla more
Phoebe - so frumpy, try Venetia instead

Jesse - ugh, just ugh
Otis - a bit like Jesse but ugh, Bryan Ferry's son sort of urgh
Seth - a boy name I really really hate (what is to like?)

theduchessofspork · 07/09/2024 01:51

Phoebe and Jesse are v nice

I also quite like Seth

Sophia is way overdone and Otis and Willa too faddy and of the moment, and Willa a bit unfortunate if the girl doesn’t grow up willowy, I always think

Girls:
Willa - ambivalent. Given how much more popular Willow is now, I think this might get head as Willow said with a lazy accent.
Sophia - very pretty. Super popular but that's because it's a lovely name.
Phoebe - really like it.

Boys:
Jesse - love, love, love it. My favourite boys' name.
Otis - not keen. My brain adds 'the aardvark' to it and I can't even remember why!
Seth - not keen. Quite a harsh sound somehow.

I'd go for Phoebe and Jesse.

I love Willa, it was also on my list along with Hedda. We went with Stella in the end

Heavenlyhoumous · 06/09/2024 19:14

Love Phoebe and all of your boys names, Jesse especially.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/09/2024 16:45

Willa and Seth are nice. If you like a nature vibe you might like similar Willow and Heath (and if you like Jesse for a boy, you might like Jessamine for a girl).

Sophia is lovely but very popular (when you combine with all the Sofia’s/ Sophie’s around too) - Ophelia, Serena, Selena, Cecilia and Celia might be other options. Sorry I’ve never liked the repeated “ee’s” in Phoebe. Ianthe and Felicity have the repeated “ee’s” but are nicer imo. Or Xanthe, Sylvie, Coralie?

Jesse I find too feminine but Jared or Caleb have similar US cowboy vibes?

Otis always sounds like a children’s tv character to me (a bit like Barney) so it’s not my taste - but If you like that “o” sound then Owen, Ivo and Jago are nice . Or Lewis if it’s the ending sound you want.

Girls:
Willa- awful
Sophia- gorgeous, my favourite
Phoebe- lovely

Boys:
Jesse- My favourite
Otis- close second!
Seth- Nope

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 05/09/2024 14:21

Willa is awful and she will be called willy.

Jesse and Seth are very 90s American names.

Phoebe and Sophia are nice.

SatinHeart · 05/09/2024 14:20

I really don't like Willa, but all the others are nice OP

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/09/2024 14:18

Phoebe and Sophia are lovely - I’d pick Phoebe as it’s less overused than Sophia. Willa sounds like Willy in our local accent!

Seth is my favourite of your boys names. Otis is quite nice too. Jesse sounds too feminine to me for a boy.

Of yiur girls' names I love Phoebe. Sophia is nice but a bit overused (if that's something you'd be concerned about). I dislike Willa as a standalone name (and it might be mosheard for Willow), but would be a cute nn for Wilhelmina.

Seth and Jesse are both nice. Otis is an aardvark to me (sorry op!) but no kids today would be familiar with 90s cbbc!

Mumofgirls2017 · 05/09/2024 13:44

Willa
otis

CookieMonster28 · 05/09/2024 10:52

I only like Willa from your girls names but I like all the boys names!

lollyPaloozah · 05/09/2024 10:38

I love Willa and Jesse

not keen on Seth or Sophia

nomud · 05/09/2024 10:34

Not Willa unfortunately as I can see some kids turning that into a bullying nickname.

Ardrahan · 05/09/2024 10:33

Willa and Jesse. I’ve developed a horror of names involving ‘th’ since living somewhere there ‘th’ is routinely pronounced as ‘f’. It doesn’t matter in ordinary speech, but there’s something about a name being deformed that’s more bothersome. Edif, Samanfa, Lilif, Garef, Feo, Faif…

Firsttimebabymummy · 05/09/2024 10:33

Agree with this.

I like Sophia too but I know of quite a lot.

Pheobe and Jesse.

Oscar for boys? Jamie
Dont like Willa but i like Willow

KirstenBlest · 05/09/2024 10:33

Winnie for a girl, Winston for a boy?

Viviennemary · 05/09/2024 10:32

Not that keen on any of the names But they are all perfectly acceptable names. I don't mind Seth. It's growing on me.
