We don't know if we're having a boy or a girl but I love this name and think it suits both. Realistically though the singer has dominated this name hasn't she? Would this be strange to use this name?

I also like Rafe for a boy and DH likes Rayne for a girl but we don't like either's and Raye is the only one we agree with.

I know a woman named Raya and two women named Rae. I also know a Raina and Rayanne!

MonsteraMama · 02/09/2024 14:19

Oh yay now I feel old and out of touch because I had no idea who Raye was.

It's not to my taste but if you like it, just use it. I very much doubt anyone is going to be making the association with the singer, especially in ten years or so when it would maybe occur to your child's peers.

Just4thisthreadtoday · 02/09/2024 14:19

It's not a name I'd choose.

but I prefer Raye to Rae.

youve still got plenty of time to choose a name! She doesn't have to pop out named!!

Glitterbiscuits · 02/09/2024 14:15

Rae or Raye are awful no matter how it is spelled
There is nothing to it as a name. No style.

CherryValley5 · 02/09/2024 14:14

Awful. Trendy but not in a good way, already dated. Rae translates to female sheep - not exactly complimentary for your DD!

InTheRainOnATrain · 02/09/2024 14:13

I don’t think the singer is quite that level of famous that it’ll be most people’s first thought. More it sounds like a nickname for Rachel or Raymond. And there’s the Star Wars association but that’s spelt Rey I think. And for a boy I’d spell it ‘Ray’ without the extra E unless you want everyone to think girl. I do also really like Rafe though!

Babadook76 · 02/09/2024 14:12

Also never heard of the singer. It’s my daughters middle name, named after a family member

Needmorelego · 02/09/2024 14:08

I've never heard of a singer called Raye (off to Google her now.....) so I wouldn't think that you've named your baby after her or anything.
I've always had a fondness for the girls name Rayanne.

DiscoBeat · 02/09/2024 14:08

I haven't heard of a singer called Raye but
I would choose the Rae spelling anyway, I think it looks nicer. Also Raye reminds me of PAYE!

WappityWabbit · 02/09/2024 14:06

Yes, spelling it RAE is much nicer and fairly well known.

longdistanceclaraclara · 02/09/2024 14:06

I know several little Rae's at the moment. I don't like Raye.

bzarda · 02/09/2024 14:04

Like the name but also prefer Rae.
I don't think your child's peers will associate the name with the singer by the time they grow up and are in school. If you like it use it!

TheCultureHusks · 02/09/2024 14:01

Not a fan. It’s pretty ugly and will date horribly. Surely you can find a nicer name!!

YouveGotAFastCar · 02/09/2024 14:00

I think it's fine.

I thought of Rey from Star Wars, the singer wouldn't have occurred to me.

Clearinguptheclutter · 02/09/2024 13:59

I prefer Rae (know two)
why the y?
