Name for an Italian/English baby boy

I am addressing here both English and Italian speakers, what do you think honestly of the names below:

Orlando

Cosimo

Ludovico

Dario

Orlando is more often found as a surname than a name.
Cosimo is very old fashioned due to the Cosimo-Damiano connection (the holy doctors in catholic traditon)
Ludovico is very posh
Dario is the most modern of the 4 names.

How about Damiano or Gaetano? Ruggiero? Vittorio?

Never been to vicenza, I must admit. I'm not sure I'd want to move to veneto though... would love tuscany or romagna.

Have just had a weekend in Ferrara, it's beautiful. Actually I wouldn't midn migrating to Emiglia Romagna

Bruno is old fashioned in Italy, but I find it very beautiful.

Lorenzo is very popular, all middle classes children are either Pietro or Lorenzo. or giacomo. Ludovico if wealthier . Enzo doesn't work.

I thought we had made a terrible mistake to name ds Andrea (it is a family name for us), but seriously never had problems. Though he was Andre - ia
I still love nicola.

Lucky you. We send students to Ferrara and they say really nice things about it (though I've never been there... I need to find an excuse). I think you should definitely go for something 'daring' then, like Astolfo or Brandimarte or something. No, seriously, you've convinced me that Orlando is the name you need! (And Dante would be a definite no-no, then! )

I knew a Ciro at secondary school and no-one had a problem with pron.
The 'family' issues are a whole 'nother story though..

More to the point, Ciro would often be pronounced Sigh-Ro in the UK. (And then, when you explained, Cheerio!) I don't know if I could be bothered...

My current favourites from this thread are Lorenzo/Enzo and Fulvio (just because I love the name, though...).

Sophiebbb... Pop Idol? Was there someone called that on Pop Idol?
