Never heard Isla pronounced eezla/is-la. Have only ever heard it pronounced eye-la.

Were the sites you saw British?

I went to school with an Ayla, pronounced eye-la. She never had a problem with it being mispronounced.

i think a person called mason would find it more difficult to be taken seriously in their career in the west of scotland. how you can consider a jesuit name and a masonic one is a bit beyond me, tbh.

I do like the name Mason, and if it's your favourite name then you should absolutely go for it. I'm not trying to put you off, just giving you a heads up on possible negatives IYKWIM.
Just bear it in mind that for those who haven't lived a life in scotland sheltered from the religious nonsense that you have been spared, it may be an issue. But it's their issue not yours.

I would think Ayla was pronounced Ay-la not Eye-la.

I prefer Isla and Iona.

I don't like Mason I'm afraid, but then I don't like first names that sound like surnames, eg Taylor, Bailey, Mackenzie etc.

As for boys names I am a bit of a sucker for some very Scottish names
e.g. Hamish, Angus, Cameron

When I was looking I found the national statistics site very useful - they list the top 100 names for the last five years.

I found it useful because I didn't want a name that was too popular, although I still wanted something traditional. (We went with Robin in the end for our little boy.)

you'd get caught up in a load of celtic rangers stuff, no joke. it's v prevalent here, sectarian bigotry, you don't want to play in their hands. if he came up here to work or somesuch in later life, he'd hate his name, everyone would comment on it.
