Retro/Rockabilly boys names

I made a post about retro girl names that has been really helpful. We had a short list of Dean, Dale, Dewey, Lyle and Floyd for boys. Our favourite is Lyle, but as we got so many different suggestions for girls we’d like to see if there are any suggestions for boys that we haven’t thought of. We like retro names, that are quite uncommon. Someone suggested ‘rockabilly’ which is exactly our type. Any ideas?.

Duane, Hank, Richie, Marlon, Buddy.
What an interesting thread.

My son Dean was named after James Dean ( still a fan)
My late husband wouldn't let me name him Elvis 😉.

Thank you for everyone who had something productive to say.

It hasn’t been suggested but we really like the name Davey/Davy and it has some family links which we really like.

Because the rockabilly genre is a hugely distinctive genre and not one associated with Britain or the world for that matter. Im baffled why parents want to give their children names that reflect their own interests and thus saddle their kids with those identities. Baffled I am.

I’m not really in any way interesting in anything rockabilly, and only found the term when someone suggested that that was what my naming style was. I doubt many people would assume someone called Gene, or Billy, or any of the names suggested here, has been saddled with an identity.

I’m also not sure why you’re so obsessed with the word baffled. You quoted me saying it and have used it twice in your post, it’s very strange.

I think a lot of us were baffled at your comment to be honest.

Why would liking names from a certain era and genre mean that a child wouldn't have their own identity?
It doesn't make any sense.

Most names are inspired by something whether that be popular culture, nature, royalty, family members, people you admire, a favourite novel/ film/ band etc etc..... does that mean none of them have their own identity?

Are you really “baffled” that naming your kid a rockabilly name wouldn’t infer a certain identity?

Absolutely baffled as to why you think a man called Gene can’t have his own identity.

Gaylord

I went to school with a Gaylord. He was American and was actually called Gaylord the third. Really nice guy. He was only at the school for a year in year 9 (international school, diplomat famillies). I always wonder what happened to him. Nobody commented on his name that i remember.
