Final 4!

WolfMother326 · 26/08/2024 17:15

I've posted before, about a brother for Alasdair. Middle name will be Michael.

Our sweet baby is 2 weeks old and our final 4 name choices are:

Edmund
Adrian
Elliott
Rowan (too popular?)

Please don't suggest anything else but thoughts on these 4 would be helpful, thanks.

I think Adrian is due a comeback. It's a late 70's name. Whereas Elliot and Rowan are popular a few years back and sounding like their time is over.
Not so fond of Edmund as he was the bad un in The Lion The Witch abd The Wardrobe. But it's classic.and neither downmarket or trendy

2chocolateoranges · 26/08/2024 21:09

Edmund- no too harsh sounding
Adrian- no
Elliot - is my favourite, I know an adult Elliot but no children with the name,
Rowan- to me is a girls name.

Edenmum2 · 26/08/2024 21:06

Just out of interest - every thread on names gets such a mix of answers...do the posters ever find it helpful?!

Edenmum2 · 26/08/2024 21:05

Always loved Elliot and maybe Eli for short. Love Edmund but it'll get shortened to Eddie probably so it depends if you're happy with that

KimFan · 26/08/2024 20:29

Elliott or Rowan. The others are not good.

Manyshelves · 26/08/2024 20:28

Hate Edmund. Not keen on Adrian. Rowan could be a girl. So I’m saying Elliott

DramaAlpaca · 26/08/2024 20:27

Edmund or Adrian. They'd both be really good with Alasdair.

Not Elliot, I don't like it as a first name.

I think I prefer Rowan on a girl.

Ceebs85 · 26/08/2024 20:25

I hate Edmund but the others are fine.

I'd go Elliott

newmum1508 · 26/08/2024 20:23

I LOVE Elliott and Rowan. Both timeless and lovely sounding! I love the nature meaning in Rowan too.
Edmund makes me think of the Narnia films which there’s not anything ‘wrong’ with but I’m also just not keen. He would probably get called Ed a lot when older, which I don’t like very much.
Also not keen on Adrian but for no particular reason.

thats just for me personally though, they aren’t “bad” names at all

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/08/2024 20:17

Are you in Scotland? My favourite by far is Rowan but I think it’s very popular there for girls so I’d hesitate if so. I love Alasdair btw.

twentysevendresses · 26/08/2024 19:43

Elliot at a push.

Sorry OP but I don't like any of the others. Particularly Edmund (awful name!)

Enko · 26/08/2024 19:38

Edmund goes so well with Alasdair

1984Winston · 26/08/2024 19:36

Edmund definitely

Nicebloomers · 26/08/2024 19:19

Edmund

luckylavender · 26/08/2024 18:39

I may be biased, but 100% Edmund. It's my DS's name. And he never gets called Eddy, he's Ed. Great name.

NoSnowdrop · 26/08/2024 18:29

Congratulations!

Edmund is a good strong name like Alasdair.

Rowan is okay but agree with PP not everyone suits that name.

Elliott I’m not keen on.

Adrian - dislike. Makes me think of Adrian Mole (which I did enjoy reading).

Rowan and Edmund are my favourites.

I like Elliott but there are too many different spellings. It might work if you have a very short surname that nobody could possibly mis-spell.

Not keen on Adrian with a sibling called Alasdair - it sounds like you’re going for a theme, which I don’t think you are given the other names.

Raininginparadise2 · 26/08/2024 18:25

From you list, I like Rowan and Elliott best of all.

beetlebrain · 26/08/2024 18:22

I have a grown up Edmund so clearly love it. There was never anyone in the school with that name, let alone his class. Don't know why it isn't more prevalent; it's an excellent name.

EveSix · 26/08/2024 18:21

Ed or Ted will be grateful for his lovely, steady name which is easy to say and spell.

KirstenBlest · 26/08/2024 18:21

Edmund - Blackadder, Narnia
Adrian - A drain. Mole. Ay-DREE-UUUUUN!
Elliott - Eliot/Elliot/Elliott
Rowan (too popular?) - Atkinson, Williams, Pelling. Roman too popular

workworkworkblahblahblah · 26/08/2024 18:19

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 26/08/2024 18:19

Okokokokokish · 26/08/2024 18:17
