Duncan

We are due our 2nd baby next month, first baby went 3 days without a name before we settled on a classic name. With the new baby DH keeps saying he really likes Duncan as a name. We are Scottish and I was at school with a few Duncan but don't know any under 20 now and I just can't make my mind up if it's hideous or not! If it was purely up to me I wouldn't consider Duncan but it does go well with our surname and our first child's name.
What are others opinions? I really don't want it to be a few days after baby is born and we don't have a name so I just give in due to exhaustion . This is a really important decision which I need to get right

I really like it! I know three of primary school age so may be starting a comeback. Also a regal name, if that influences you.

Should add I'm in Scotland.

hattie43 · 26/08/2024 19:44

Duncan ??? Are you birthing an old man .

Nicebloomers · 26/08/2024 19:19

Great name! Definitely due a revival. My favourite Scottish boys name is Gregor so I’ll throw that in the ring.

TheScottishPlay · 26/08/2024 19:16

I have an early 20s Duncan and love the name. It wasn't what we had originally chosen, but a case of 'He came with a name' and is definitely is our 'Dark warrior'.

I think Duncan Scott
Maybe he'll be a good swimmer

shoopshoopdedoo · 26/08/2024 18:13

Really like it

Cakencookieobsessed · 26/08/2024 17:48

I really dislike it, sorry. I think it's ugly sounding.

Shibr · 26/08/2024 17:46

Duncan from Blue! PJ and Duncan!

I don’t know any under 35, but it’s not a horrible name. Strangely I don’t think Scottish immediately, more 90/00s cheeky chappy!

Firebird83 · 26/08/2024 17:44

I like it!

Bideshi · 26/08/2024 17:41

Got a Duncan grandson. Love it. Dark Warrior.

CoolDown · 26/08/2024 17:40

I don’t like it at all especially for a baby or toddler.

neverenoughwine · 26/08/2024 17:38

Love this, especially as you're in Scotland!

It's a good strong name and one due a revival, surely?

Snugglemonkey · 26/08/2024 17:31

I have lived in Scotland 15 years and have never met a Duncan. I love it.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 26/08/2024 16:38

It shortens to Dunk, which would put me off. I prefer Declan, but it's not Scottish.

Comedycook · 26/08/2024 16:29

Always really disliked this name. Not sure if male names can be frumpy, but that's how I view it.

thecrispfiend · 26/08/2024 16:23

My brother is a 36 year old Duncan (we have Scottish heritage) and really suits his name. I don't know any others ! But it's a good strong name 👍🏻

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 26/08/2024 16:20

Sorry, not keen, would group as middle-aged along with Douglas and Fraser and Colin. There are so many nicer Scottish names (if it's Scottish you're after).

Pipecleanerrevival · 26/08/2024 16:16

Aw it’s a great name. All the Duncans I’ve ever met have been lovely people.

toastofthetown · 26/08/2024 16:14

I like Duncan, but don’t love it and wouldn’t use it myself. If you’re not onboard with the name, then I’d keep looking.

I don't like it and I wouldn't go with it if you're not sure.

JellicleCat · 26/08/2024 16:02

All the Duncan's i know are lovely so it is a yes from me. Youngest i know is in his 20s.

beetr00 · 26/08/2024 16:01

a memory of old, less sophisticated times 😊 but....

"Duncan" make your garden grow

Lemongrassandcamomile · 26/08/2024 15:58

I like it. Easy to spell, classic, but not too common.
