Immediately think of the TV series.

Firsttimebabymummy · 24/08/2024 20:33

I just think of the TV Series and my friends GSD dog.

Moreteaandchocolate · 24/08/2024 20:28

Love it!

onwardandupwards · 24/08/2024 20:08

Love it, it was on my baby name list. There are 2 in my sons playschool class.

It’s trying to be cool and failing. I’d guess Dexter’s sister would be Indie.

VerbenaGirl · 24/08/2024 19:55

I really like it. The dogs and fictional serial killer don’t bother me. Plus he only killed the bad guys.

HumerousHumous · 24/08/2024 19:53

Dexter's Journey. A children's story about an heroic rubber duck that travels the world.

You DO hear a lot of dogs "Dexter! Dexter!"

Also, as per pp, a big estate agent chain here in London which is not always well thought of. Not relevant if you live further afield though.

BUT... I think it is a very cute name for a boy. Can you imagine it for an adult? If yes, go for it.

shoopshoopdedoo · 24/08/2024 19:48

Bad estate agent associations for me, but it’s quite a nice name

I too know a spaniel called Dexter. My first reaction was 'a dog's name.'
But pets now get human names more, look at Monty Don's dogs. So maybe it can't be avoided.

LoneHydrangea · 24/08/2024 19:46

I like it but people will think serial killer and dog’s name.

IvyTwines · 24/08/2024 19:44

The TV drama about a serial killer springs to mind, or Dexter's Laboratory. It's not a name you hear in everyday use probably because of the TV associations

botleybump · 24/08/2024 19:44

Love! This was on my boy list.

Don't worry about the tv show...Teddy seems awful popular right now given we've just had a Ted Bundy moment in film and tv. Can't say I think of a killer every time I meet one of those!

Hatty65 · 24/08/2024 19:44

Again, it's very American.

It's the name of a series about a psychopathic killer so I think a lot of people would associate the name with that. Otherwise a nice name though. You don't hear it much.

I liked it enough it was on our shortlist but ultimately we rejected it due to the TV Show association.

InTheRainOnATrain · 24/08/2024 19:43

Estate agent (it’s a big one in our part of London) or the serial killer TV show.

I know one - it’s a spaniel.
