People have been know to laugh when I tell them my little girls name and I dont know why. I love it and she loves it. She is called Elaine and she is four. People also often think they have missed heard it and call her Elanor or Elizabeth and once Jazmin(?!) so what do you honestky think of it? Is it stupid?

Great name! Also my name.
I still get people saying Elaine the pain though!

sweetkitty · 16/04/2008 20:57

i posted on the other thread!

I think it's rather lovely. It is old fashioned as squonk says but it'll be back in before you can blink and then suddenly all the millions of Ellas, Ellens, Eleanors will be Elaines and you'll be a massive trend setter.

hippipotami · 16/04/2008 20:56

I like it - not heard very much these days, which is why I like it!!

Ignore the rude people and feel comfortable in the fact you have given your dd a strong, traditional, individual but not wacky-made-up name.

I like it very very very much indeed!

SSSandy2 · 16/04/2008 20:55

I think of it as a totally normal and very nice, feminine name. Can't believe people laugh about it. How weird

constancereader · 16/04/2008 20:54

It is a beautiful and romantic name. How rude of people to laugh. We told a nurse my ds's name in the hospital and she laughed and said "No, really - what is his name?"

I pitied her ignorance and despised her It is a fairly common name in some parts of the country too, just not where we are!

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 16/04/2008 20:54

No it's not stupid.

Perhaps a tad old-fashioned.

I have a dd with a quite old-fashioned name (I don't mean trendy old-fashioned like Amy or Emily btw)

A lot of people assume that it is MY name. They ask her name, I tell them, they say to me "hello dd'sname, what's her name."

How on earth did they get Jazmin from Elaine?

thisisyesterday · 16/04/2008 20:53

people who do that are

  1. very ignorant
  2. narrow-minded
  3. rude

just remember that, and then also remember that you don't care what people like that think. the fools.

Elaine is a lovely name. not common these days, so unusual for a little girl, which I guess is why people think they've misheard it.
