People have been know to laugh when I tell them my little girls name and I dont know why. I love it and she loves it. She is called Elaine and she is four. People also often think they have missed heard it and call her Elanor or Elizabeth and once Jazmin(?!) so what do you honestky think of it? Is it stupid?

I have a really good friend called Elaine, she is gorgeous, your DD is in good company.
I like it.

BouncingTurtle · 16/04/2008 21:20

Those people are idiots, dylanthecat. Ignore them. It's a lovely name.

I posted on the other thread, too!

MrsTittleMouse · 16/04/2008 21:17

Your daughter's name is lovely. Blimey, when I read the thread title I thought that she must be called Fifi Trixibell or something.

For what it's worth, a friend of mine has moved into an area where unusual names are really popular, and she's having to correct people who call her "al ee say". Her name is Alice. Some people are just nutters!

dylanthecat · 16/04/2008 21:10

here they all have more "modern" names so hers sticks out a bit more

anyway old-fashioned names are in atm. i know loads of little marys, isobels, susys, tillys, elsies, violets, mollys, maisies, ericas, millies etc

dylanthecat · 16/04/2008 21:06

People are so rude! I think it's a pretty name. What's funny about Elaine?

Pavlovthecat · 16/04/2008 21:05

I remember my sister calling her DD Nancy and thinking to myself (would not ever dreaming of telling her) that I thought it was a tad old fashioned and maybe she would conscious of it when she grew up. She is 3 now, and Nancy is very popular! So she is a trend setter!

dylanthecat · 16/04/2008 21:05

must just be here then!

wornoutwaitress · 16/04/2008 21:04

Caz10 · 16/04/2008 21:04

Most of the Elaines I know are mid-30s but I have taught 2, they are both about 8 now.

i didnt want her to be like me with the same name as every other girl in her year but my mother hated it so much she spent 6 months trying to get me to call her EJ

Caz10 · 16/04/2008 21:01

I know LOTS of Elaines! Thought it was quite common? (don't mean that in a bad way). I am in Scotland, is it scottish? I am v suprised, it is a v ordinary name here!

TheMuppetMuggle · 16/04/2008 21:00

dylanthecat · 16/04/2008 21:00

IGNORE

Pavlovthecat · 16/04/2008 20:59

I cant beleive how rude people can be. Ignore them and be proud your dd has a lovely name that is not common. She will thank you for it when she is not swamped by others in her class at school with the same name

HonorMatopoeia · 16/04/2008 20:59

Congratulations, you have given your Dd a beautiful name that is not the name of every other girl on the planet yet not wacky or hideous!
I love the name Elaine, you obviously do too so stick two proverbial fingers up to the doubters

Janni · 16/04/2008 20:58

It's a pretty name. Please don't worry, folk are strange sometimes
