Ive been liking this name lately. I like gemstone names.

What do you think about the name Jade?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Think of the name not the person

The name has nothing to do with the person that you knew.

It would be like me saying "I hate the name Sarah because I once knew a horrible sarah"

It doesn't really make sense.

I mean, I 100% would never call my DD Sarah for that exact reason! I think that's fairly normal.

SnapBang · 21/08/2024 22:59

Reminds me of Jade Jagger - like it a lot

Janedoe82 · 21/08/2024 22:58

Of course lots of other famous Jades but Jade Goody stands out the most for me anyway.

I don't like it but that's because it was so popular in the 90s and every one I knew was horrid sorry!

Yeah jade and jaden are nice on boys.

Jada is also another nice version for girls

EconomyClassRockstar · 21/08/2024 22:48

The only Jade I have ever met was a guy and I really loved his name.

SparklyJadeFawn · 21/08/2024 22:46

I love all the gemstone names.

And you can buy the girls great presents.

I have a little cousin called Ruby. And we all get her different Ruby bracelets and rings at different times.

And she absolutely loves them.

Or we even just get her things like red coloured key rings to go with her "ruby theme"

So many gift ideas

PurpleChrayn · 21/08/2024 22:43

I love it.

My DD has a classmate called Jade at nursery.

Jade was very chavy here in Ireland 25 years ago.

Chavy? Do you mean that poor people used the name?

So what? They can use any name they want

Jade Goody ( born 80’s I think)

Oh sorry: reading backwards! But she is the first Jade I thought of besides two I knew in person

Jade Carey - USA Olympic gold gymnastic medallist is probably the most current famous Jade.

There aren't a lot of them about. But I don't know why Jade goody would be the most remembered one.

There are many more recent and more famous jades than her

She was in Little Mix, the band

Why does it remind people of jade goody though. She was just one person. There are plenty of jade's out there

Genuinely curious for all those saying it’s dated but when a name such as Edith or Edward is mentioned MN fall over themselves to love it and there is never any mention of them being dated. What’s the difference?

jade is a very popular name in France. If it’s good enough for the French it’s good enough! I think it’s a lovely name!!!

I think there’s a difference between dated and old fashioned/ traditional. I guess it’s the name equivalent of the difference between vintage and antique. One has passed thd test of time, the other just isn’t new.

Personally I like Edith and Edward but find Jade a bit passé. I also agree the mean girl comments ( applies to the ones I knew).

I met the cutest baby Jade. I used to babysit her

We called her "baby jade" not just jade.

It was such a sweet name on her
