Give it to me straight .... What are your thoughts?
Is it going to be hard to say? Spelling difficulties? Would my daughter hate me if I gave her this name?
There's something drawing me to it. And it's not my usual style. Would you say it's a modern name? Although it's after quite a historic concept?
Can be brutally honest!

marshmallowfinder · 29/09/2024 23:08

Wor wor wah. Not nice imo!

DickEmery · 29/09/2024 22:40

This thread has popped up for me again and honestly I can't overstate how ugly this name sounds bellowed in a broad Yorkshire accent. O-ROAAAR-RA O-ROAAAR-RA TIME FOR TEA. It's like they're lowing or something.

s3tut0y3r · 29/09/2024 21:24

I love it. Roe for short. Like in the Hallmark series Aurora Teagarden

ladygindiva · 29/09/2024 21:23

Prefer Areli ( not sure of spelling) , and yes I heard of it from that tiktok family

MrsMitford3 · 29/09/2024 20:58

I love Aurora. So pretty and classic.

Switcher · 23/08/2024 22:55

No. Try araminta.

reallyalurker · 23/08/2024 22:53

I like Aurora. It makes me think of the character in Anne-Cath. Vestly's Aurora series, a little girl with a brother called Sokrates. Not keen on Alba - don't like the combination of the short name with a plosive, the sound is a bit in one's face.

FunnysInLaJardin · 23/08/2024 22:40

I know one Portuguese Aurora who must be 80 and is the most wonderful woman and one baby Aurora.

I love it as a name and dont think it needs shortening

Bey · 23/08/2024 22:37

I love it, we have one in our family and she's lovely and really suits her name

purpleme12 · 23/08/2024 22:35

SonicTheHodgeheg · 23/08/2024 22:33

Aurora is Disney Princess and Alba is the budget Argos electronics line.

What on earth 🤣

SonicTheHodgeheg · 23/08/2024 22:33

Aurora is Disney Princess and Alba is the budget Argos electronics line.

DickEmery · 23/08/2024 22:32

I don't think it's that great. But it could just be where I am - it's not a nice sounding word for a Yorkshire accent.

Sorrelia · 23/08/2024 22:30

SO I've been thinking of this name a lot for my own daughter and my conclusion is I LOVE it written down, but said out loud, it's actually not that nice.

Boltonb · 23/08/2024 17:27

awful

Gloschick · 22/08/2024 23:51

I prefer Aurelia too. There is also the option of Aurielle if you prefer that.

LittleDoveLove · 22/08/2024 23:23

I don't not like it, I think the way it's written looks a lot prettier than how it's said though. I prefer Aurelia which seems on the same vein. X

Ellmau · 19/08/2024 23:05

Alba's nice. My only concern would be with the small Scottish political party.

Tintinuviel · 15/08/2024 00:04

BoleynMemories13 · 13/08/2024 05:39

I really dislike it I'm afraid (you asked for honesty). It's a mouthful to say and a nightmare for those who can't pronounce their Rs (imagine Jonathan Ross saying it).

It's also very trendy/Disney Princess which is totally the opposite to my own personal style.

I lump it with names like Luna and Nova which have all just come out of nowhere and will date quite badly imo.

I have to agree. I WANT to like it, it looks pretty on paper, bit the syllables just sound a mouthful. It's soft but it's TOO soft.

I prefer Aurelia or Audra as similar names that are easier to pronounce.

RogueFemale · 13/08/2024 23:32

Alba is awful. Sorry.

Meredusoleil · 13/08/2024 05:52

Wow! That is proper nasty 😳

Yes, kids can be mean.

Meredusoleil · 13/08/2024 17:22

I don't mind Alba, but much prefer Alma like a pp said. It means "soul" in Spanish, which is a nice meaning too imho.

KirstenBlest · 13/08/2024 16:13

If you want a name meaning dawn, there's always Gwawr.

KirstenBlest · 13/08/2024 16:06

I don't like Alba either. As pp said, it sounds like Albert. Alma sounds nicer.

shoopshoopdedoo · 13/08/2024 15:53

I don’t love Alba - where I’m from, no one pronounces t’s properly so it sounds identical to Albert! But I much prefer it to Aurora and it would be fine if you live somewhere with a better accent!
