Nathaniel vs Cooper

Beepeony · 08/08/2024 09:32

DH and I can’t decide between Cooper and Nathaniel (Nate). Baby due in several weeks.

My only concern it that Cooper is a bit chavvy? compared to Nathaniel. We already have a Miles.

I really like
Henry
Edward
Joseph
But DH vetoed all of these!

All opinions welcome!

I really dislike Nathaniel. I would be working to change dh’s opinion if it was me instead, I like your original choices.

CobraChicken · 08/08/2024 21:00

Definitely Nathaniel out of those two options.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 08/08/2024 20:49

Nathaniel, much nicer. I have a relative called Nathaniel uses his full name at work etc, Nat to friends, Spaniel to his sister!

Bin85 · 08/08/2024 20:47

Nathaniel please

WiganPie · 08/08/2024 20:13

If you like it and he likes it then that's fine @lozrox90 .

lozrox90 · 08/08/2024 19:54

My DS4 is called Cooper. It's not known as a chavvy name where we are from. Clearly I'm in the minority liking the name according to the responses on this post though 🤣

LadyGabriella · 08/08/2024 19:53

I absolutely love Nathaniel

ChristmasJumpers · 08/08/2024 19:46

I like "different" names but just going off the other names you like and your existing DSs name I would go with Nathaniel. Nate is a very cool shortening

Meadowwild · 08/08/2024 19:44

I prefer Nathaniel and love Nate as a nn

Floralnomad · 08/08/2024 19:39

Nathaniel , although I prefer Nathan

PointyHairyLegHairs · 08/08/2024 19:38

Pub near us call The Master Cooper when I was a kid.
It was a proper dive!
Cooper is a surname!

I like Nate

Two completely different styles of names. Nathaniel is traditional, with cool nn options with Nate/Nathan. Cooper is a surname/dogs name.

Nathaniel goes much better with Miles and is so much nicer than Cooper. Easy choice for me.

This.

sanityisamyth · 08/08/2024 19:36

Cooper is a surname. Means barrel maker.

SausageRoll2020 · 08/08/2024 19:31

Nathaniel. It's a proper first name.

Cooper is a surname and the only "person" I know of with it as a first name is a Labrador

TheBirdintheCave · 08/08/2024 17:28

Nate is lovely with Miles. A cooper is someone who makes barrels.

Orphlids · 08/08/2024 16:53

A friend from a rather posh background recently had a baby and named him Cooper. I admit my initial reaction was one of surprise, because Cooper strikes me as… er…the opposite of posh.

I don’t think it matters if siblings names go together, but Miles and Cooper have completely different vibes.

Nathaniel is nice.

RedRobyn2021 · 08/08/2024 16:36

Nathaniel is the safer option, I had both of these on my list of boy names

Also some people call their dogs Cooper which really put me off

StrugglingwithIvanhoe · 08/08/2024 16:26

Love the name Nathaniel. It's the real name of Hawkeye from the Last of the Mohicans by the way, strong and romantic!

SouthgatesWaistcoat · 08/08/2024 16:19

Miles and Nate / Nathaniel sounds lovely.

Don't like the name Cooper at all.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 08/08/2024 16:19

Nathaniel. It's a classy name and sounds great with Miles. Cooper.... isn't and doesn't. Plus there's a lot more you can do with Nathaniel if you want to shorten it - Nat Nate Nathan; Cooper is just going to get Coops.

BobbyBiscuits · 08/08/2024 16:17

Nathaniel is nice. Nat or nate for short.
What about Nathan, Daniel, Theodore, Luke, Freddie, Fintan, Evan, River, Samuel, Alexander?
Dk if those are on your radar at all but they're all nice.

spiderlight · 08/08/2024 16:10

Nathaniel/Nate goes much better with Miles. Cooper is too surnamey and doesn't have the same vibe.

salamithumbs · 08/08/2024 16:03

Definitely Nathaniel.... Cooper just makes me think of chicken coop (and pooper scooper 😬)

SprinkleOfSunak · 08/08/2024 16:01

Nathaniel. I don’t like Cooper.

I also don’t like names shortened, so would be insisting others call him Nathaniel and not Nate.

Changingname1988 · 08/08/2024 15:59

The only Cooper I know is a very boisterous spaniel so I’ve only heard the name being shouted in frustration or followed by “stop pulling”. I would choose Nathaniel.
