What do you think of the name Felix? Too popular? Will it date? I've always been very resistant to top hundred names, but my husband hates most of my name choices, so Felix is on the table. I know that popular names are much less popular (only 46% of boys had a top hundred name in 2022 vs 73% in 1996), and it's only 733 boys, which across all of England and Wales feels like nothing.

I have a teenage Felix. Still love the name.
He has never had any issues with it

It means happy and lucky which is what we wanted to wish him for his life.
The cat thing has never been mentioned in real life, but honestly doesn't bother me I love cats anyway so wouldn't view as a bad thing if his name reminded people of cats.

It had history , is an established well known name ( multiple popes , well used across Europe), Latin rooted. Easy to spell, nice meaning with fun aspects IE harry potter luck potion.
I didn't know it was now popular though it was just outside the top 100 when we picked it.

Yes … though do you pronounce it Ruff- us?! I know a Rufus and the MIL calls him Ruff-us. I’m always wondering if she’s trying to make a dog point but she’s Nordic so it might be a language thing.

To me it means happiness, it is not too pompous and not 100% tied to a particular social group, can be pronounced and recognised by people in lots of different countries.

Tbh you can have any business start up with any name, there's a business that uses my name that sprung up in the last few years. You could call him the most innocuous or unusual name then that's the latest condom brand/popstar/prime minister. That's life.

If I had a porridge brand I’d call it Otis with a picture of a cheeky little boy and his bowl of porridge.

Is it very popular? I don't see many little ones. I like it because I like the meaning and there is a slight early 20 th century raffishness that appeals. DH didn't like it so it was off our list.

To your face maybe. But the OP didn't ask what we would say to a parent of a child called Felix. She asked what we think. There's a huge difference.

Trust me, if your kids are Luna and Rex then people have thought "dog names".
