Alice’s brother

I need some help naming baby boy, due in October.

If dd (Alice) had been a boy she would have been a Frederick which is still by far my favourite boy’s name. But I think it’s just too popular around here! At least 3 in our local park at the weekend. And there’s a Freddie with the same surname initial at her nursery.

I might decide I don’t care and go with it anyway but thinking of alternatives. So far have come up with:

Edward - love this but I’m not keen on Eddie. Also have a nephew called Ted already so that might be a bit close
Rowan - DH’s favourite. I like it but don’t love it
Laurence - I think this is lovely. DH less keen but hasn’t ruled it out

Which would you choose from those 3? Or any other ideas?

I love Rowan and think it goes well with Alice.
Laurence is quite long in comparison and would probably be shortened which may not be your preference

Rowan is lovely, it was on our list

I also really like Laurence as Laurie is such a lovely nickname

Daniel was the first name that came to mind when I saw the thread title

I get you OP. Fabulous names being trashed by these silly abbreviated versions.

StupendousConfectionary · 27/07/2024 21:14

Out of your three - Frederick, but also like Edward (not keen on Ted/Teddie as NN)

Others:
George, Abel, Arthur, Xander, Noah, Oscar, Jasper

I have a Rowan so naturally it's my favorite but if you and DP both have one you love go with that and don't worry that it's popular.

Also expecting DS no.2 and Edward (Ted/Teddy) and Laurie (Lawrence) are two that I love but DP isn't having either of them! Fredrick is lovely too and I haven't met any. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those.

shoopshoopdedoo · 27/07/2024 19:52

I love Alice! I would pair it with James, personally. But I also really love Edward from your list and I like the nicknames Eddie and Ed.

Freddie is nice too, but it does seem to be the name of every other baby boy I meet at the moment. I don’t mind popular names usually but it feels like it’s really having a moment.

Liv999 · 27/07/2024 19:20

Rowan is the only one I like from your list

Bankholidayhelp · 27/07/2024 19:16

Alice and Frederick
Alice and Ben

Alice and Lawrence sound off when I say them out loud. Not sure why, but they sort of sound similar!

newandconfused5 · 27/07/2024 19:12

How about Ernest? Little Ernie ❤️

RedOnyx · 27/07/2024 19:11

Another suggestion: Ferdinand

Gabriel

RobertSalamander · 27/07/2024 19:09

DD would have been Lawrence if she’d been a boy 😊😊 lovely well-known name but I don’t know any little ones.

Like Freddie but don’t like Eddie? And Fred and Ted is OK but Ed and Ted isn’t? I say go with your heart, Freddie is a lovely friendly name and yes I know lots of them but if my kids are anything to go by they LOVE meeting other kids with their same name.

James was my initial reaction to your title but I don’t like James 😄

Prefer Edward from your list. If you like Edward but not the nickname how about Edwin?

Koko83 · 27/07/2024 19:03

I think Alice & Jack sound really nice together

mum1345 · 27/07/2024 18:58

Jacob would work really well with Alice x

I prefer Edward from your three.

Next Rowan or Rohan.

Laurence is nice.

Others ..
Xavier
David
Claude
Hamish

FayCarew · 27/07/2024 16:00

Laurence is gender neutral in France
Unless you are French it doesn't matter if a name is a girl's name there. It's a boy's name here.

Edward - will be Ed or Ted.

Rowan - nice but you don't love it.

Frederick - you love it
