Posy, Posey or Posie? Its not our favourite, just one on the list. Curious as to how it is best spelt.

Posey looks like a spelling mistake.

I thought Posie was twee & frilly until Kellie-Jay Keen aka Posie Parker became well known & it now has very kickarse associations for me. Without that I’d still think twee & frilly.

NewName24 · 27/07/2024 22:11

It's a terrible name but if you do use it, then at least spell the word correctly, which is Posy.

2chocolateoranges · 27/07/2024 19:59

Posie

Soubriquet · 27/07/2024 19:56

I like Posie

PerkyMintDeer · 27/07/2024 19:54

Definitely Posy.

I like the name because of Posy Fossil but find it a bit too twee and frilly when spelled Posie. Posey seems like a description of someone who likes posing to me.

But Posy...lovely name. I also adore Petrova

Hannahspeltbackwards · 27/07/2024 19:39

I love Posie, like Rosie.

Primrose with Posie as a shortening is really pretty.

SeeSeeRider · 27/07/2024 14:53

Posy. Posie and Posey look illiterate.

Theoldwoman · 27/07/2024 14:36

Posy

MirandaBlu · 27/07/2024 05:16

As a stand-alone, I'd choose Posy. Posie is OK but really feels like a diminutive, eg for Josephine (Josie > Posie). I had the same feeling as a PP that Posey makes me think of posing.

MumChp · 27/07/2024 05:02

Posy

Starrystarryshite · 27/07/2024 02:03

ToplessWordle · 25/07/2024 21:02

Posy, as in the book Ballet Shoes. But like a PP said, to me it's more of a nickname for a young girl, and less suitable as a formal name for an adult. How about Paloma, Persephone or Petronella as your baby's given name, Posy for short?

Sorry but imagine calling your child Petronella. Sounds like the privately educated offspring of a Tory MP

Bandina · 27/07/2024 01:57

Oh thank goodness. I genuinely read it as Poxy the first time. Sorry.

I'd still go Posy of the three because the others look made up.

FayCarew · 26/07/2024 14:47

Poesy is pronounced differently, as is Poésie, and they're still twee.

I think Posy would be fine on an adult, but I think of Posy Simmonds.

MartyFunkhouser · 26/07/2024 14:37

Posy is the least terrible.

HillBillieEilish · 26/07/2024 14:35

Kitkat1523 · 26/07/2024 13:44

But the correct spelling for the name….unlike the others

Well, it’s more of a description than a name. However, with every other comment saying Posy, I’ll admit defeat.

Kitkat1523 · 26/07/2024 13:44

HillBillieEilish · 25/07/2024 20:44

Definitely not posy. It's the least "name looking".

But the correct spelling for the name….unlike the others

DramaAlpaca · 26/07/2024 13:41

It has to be Posy. Like in 'Ballet Shoes'. It's too cutesy for me, but as a diminutive of Josephine it's sweet.

It's a very twee name, and Posie just makes it even more twee. Posey is just plain wrong.

Geiyotue · 26/07/2024 12:06

Posie. But only as a nickname, it's too cutesy for a proper name.

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 26/07/2024 12:03

BoleynMemories13 · 25/07/2024 20:53

Posy. The others look made up/typos.

That said, I do think it's best as a nickname for something more substantial/less cutesy, like Josephine. Not sure many grown adults would appreciate being called 'Posy' on their birth certificate.

Edited

This. ^ @babyno3xx PLEASE don't call your child POSY (or Posie or Posey!) Just no.......! 😬

user1492757084 · 26/07/2024 12:01

There are two options..

Posy - flowers
Poesy - poetry

As a nick name you could use anything, including Posie.
Posey makes me think of a poser in a photo.

Nicebloomers · 26/07/2024 11:57

Posy

Very pretty. Was high up my baby girl name list. The accent where I live absolutely butchers it though.

RogueFemale · 26/07/2024 07:52

Posy

salamithumbs · 25/07/2024 22:45

salamithumbs · 25/07/2024 22:37

Posy, because of Ballet Shoes/Pip and Posey/ posy of flowers!
Think it would be nice as a nickname for Rosanna, Rosalie or something similar!

Sorry obviously I meant Pip and Posy 🙄 I actually think Posey looks kind of like an adjective for someone who's posing... 'stop being so posey you poser'

Underlig · 25/07/2024 22:44

Definitely Posy. The others look silly.

TinyYellow · 25/07/2024 22:40

Posie looks nicest.
