Pip for a boy...

Probably just hormonal, but have been calling my bump Pipsqueak, as it'll be the last of four. If I get too attached to it (the name, not the baby, obviously!), what could it be shortened from other than Phillip?
Although on hearing my explanation for Pip, dd1 has sworn to call it Runt....

See I too thought Kip was short for Christopher (I know Kit) but couldn't find it any where on t'internet.

Oh I don't know about it not being a man's name- my friend is definitely a man!

Kip- Christopher- could be! I quite like it.. may put it on my list....

DH best friend is called Pip (Peter is his real name).

Slinkie, yes I thought that, I don't remember seeing the full name in the book, and I thought someone on here might know. Kipp sounds nice, but they'd prolly get called kipper

I have a Philippa who is known as Pippa. Nice to have the longer version for more formal stuff, so I would go for Philip and then just use Pip as a nickname.

Presumably Kip in the English patient was short for a Sikh name - but can't think of what it might be.
I am in agreement with seeker - not a man's name is it?

My mother's friend has a son called Phillip, they call him pip though.

Kipp is an old English name in its own right although it can be shortened from Kipling. Apparently it means hill.

I love Pip. My best friend is called Pippy short for Philipa.

My son has a completely unrelated name, but his nickname has always been Pip. Don't ask me why...

PLEASE don't call him Pip. Philip shortened to Pip is fine - but imagine a middle aged man in a cardigan called Pip. A high Court Judge called Pip. An all in wrestler called Pip. A General called Pip. It's a name you need to be able to choose for yourself - not one you should be given when you're too young to do anything about it.

I know a Pip, he's in his forties and not feminine at all. He's a silent Philip though. I agree that I prefer to give the full name to give child a more formal option if they want it some time.
Kit is nice, and Kip- the bomb squad guy in the English Patient- yummy.What would Kip be short for?

Pip is a gorgeous name IMHO Think you should give the name Philip though, just for "offical stuff" when he is older. My FIL is Pip, short for Philip and he prefers to use Philip for "offcial stuff".

Go for Pip - gets my vote

dd is known affectionately as Boo but has perfectly normal first and middle names nothing to do with Boo.

Susiecutie, not def a boy, just have one of those feelings...that I am even considering boys names makes me wonder, as I only ever thought of girls names for my other three-who are all girls. I'm liking Pip more and more tonight, but still got four weeks to go. Am winding up my family with Stardust Bangle type names to rival dd3's name! (But don't think will ever take it THAT far)
