Hi everyone!

I'm expecting my 3rd baby this September. A baby girl! I want to give "Amber" as her middle name and I'm looking for a first name that would suit best. Any suggestions please?

Thank you in advance!!!

It doesn't matter to you but I think it's a bit naff, also OP did say I want to give "Amber" as her middle name , or does that not matter either?

@Malahide, I gave you the dictionary pronunciation.

@Bignanna , but they are two colours (and two nouns). OP wanted Amber as the middle name.

Doesn't matter if they’re colours and nouns. It sounds nice and OP might change her mind about Amber being the middle name.

Eh? Amber does end in 'uh'.

No, it ends in ‘er’

Amber Rose is in the wrong order. 🚥

It sounds better that way!

Firsttimebabymummy · 12/07/2024 18:39

What kind of names do you like, do you have a list so far to base suggestions on?

Only in certain accents. Definitely doesn’t end in ‘uh’ if you pronounce it phonetically and properly.

There isn't one "proper" accent.

It definitely ends in "uh"/"er" in southern England because in southern England "uh" and "we" are virtually interchangeable sounds.

"UH" and "ER" are interchangeable in Southern accents, I mean.

Pronouncing it 'properly' is Ambuh. That is the name.

@ChopSue , who are you calling daftie? Grin Great username. Mine is meant to be pronounced Owin Mahney.

Eh? Amber does end in 'uh'.

Surely it's an 'er' sound?

WhereIsMyLight · 12/07/2024 18:29

Surely it depends on the initial of you surname as putting an ‘A’ means it can easily make a 3 letter word. PAT might be fine but you might not want FAT.

EoinMahoney · 12/07/2024 18:28

@Malahide , why are you meant to pronounce it phonetically?

My DD is Amber Katherine, in her 20s now. There are lots of names ending in the 'uh' sound so wanted to avoid one of those.

Eh? Amber does end in 'uh'.

Glad I’m not the only daftie 😁

OP, I like it for a first name but a serious suggestion - Elizabeth gets my vote.
