What are your thoughts on the name Coral?

Would it be too old fashioned? Too "under the sea"?

My son's have top 10 biblical names so this would be a bit out there and not really fit with their names?

The other name I've been thinking about is Grace. But is Grace too boring? Had it's day?

longdistanceclaraclara · 25/06/2024 16:02

Cora, much nicer.

ginasevern · 25/06/2024 15:58

I like it OP. It makes a refreshing change.

CatMumSlave · 25/06/2024 15:47

Oh I meant old lady / men's names

FayCarew · 25/06/2024 15:43

@CatMumSlave , a poster said Plenty of famous - and non-famous - Corals.
I can only think of the bookmaker.Smile

CatMumSlave · 25/06/2024 15:38

@FayCarew

You've confused me

Meadowwild · 25/06/2024 15:27

I quite like it (had no idea about the betting shops - that might put me off.)

How about Pearl? That has biblical connotations from the beautiful medieval poem Pearl.

Biblical boys' names do seem more lovely generally than biblical girls' names but there's still some gorgeous ones to choose from:

Maryam/Miriam
Elizabeth
Esther
Susannah
Rebecca
Ruth (I love this, even though it's not hugely popular)
Hannah
Jemima
Leah/Lia
Martha
Rachel
Sarah
Judith
Tabitha (love this)

Like who, @SilverSimca ?

Coral isn’t a name but Cora is beautiful.

In what way is Coral not a name? It has been a name since the late 1800s according to Wikipedia. Plenty of famous - and non-famous - Corals.

DinnaeFashYersel · 25/06/2024 15:16

Cora is much nicer

FayCarew · 25/06/2024 15:13

CatMumSlave · 25/06/2024 14:52

You could say that about all the baby names used for the past 15 years.

Hardly. About half the names are boy's names. Using words like tart is sexist.

CatMumSlave · 25/06/2024 14:52

TaraTories · 25/06/2024 14:37

Not keen. I think of an 80s tart, frankly.
Or conversely an older lady with a blue rinse but a curtain twitcher.

Coral is where you go to place bets.......

FayCarew · 25/06/2024 14:36

Coral isn't a pretty name IMO. It's the name of a chain of bookmakers.
Pearl sounds like Peril in some accents.

CurlewKate · 25/06/2024 10:36

@malachitegreen "not even going to start on the name Pearl "

What am I missing?

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 25/06/2024 10:27

I was thinking of the film too. Not nice to be named Coralline.
Caroline?! Coming full circle back to Coral v Carol.

FeelingHotHotHotFeelingHotHotHot · 25/06/2024 10:22

I don't like Coraline either. Bit too 'dark fantasy,' and very Tim Burton! (Although Tim Burton didn't actually make the film 'Coraline.')

FeelingHotHotHotFeelingHotHotHot · 25/06/2024 10:20

Sorry @SummerRose999 I would say no. Isn't 'Coral' the name of Nemo's mum in Finding Nemo? 😬 She wasn't in it for long, but that was her name!

Pemba · 25/06/2024 10:18

It's fine, but it doesn't really grab me.

Coralie or Coraline are much prettier imo, do you like either of them?

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 25/06/2024 10:17

I like Coral, but prefer Cora, or Coraline.

Grace is ok too, but I think a bit boring like you say

whosaidtha · 25/06/2024 10:11

I love it and wanted to name my dd this. But the betting shop and bathroom shop put me off.

Hobbiesareapita · 25/06/2024 10:07

I looked after an old lady called Coral .She was a triplet and her sisters were called Pearl and Ruby !

coldcallerbaiter · 25/06/2024 10:07

Coralline is cute. Coral is a betting shop, so no, it is more of a jewel name like pearl, which I don’t like either.

PitterPatter3 · 25/06/2024 10:04

I know of an adult Coral. I’ve never given her name much thought other than noting that it’s unusual. I don’t particularly like it but don’t think it’s dreadful either.

I personally much prefer Grace even though it’s quite popular.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 25/06/2024 10:04

Also Tabitha and Tamar.
