Thoughts on name Victor?

What do you think of Victor as a name? We live in Chiswick, West London, and have not met many Victors in the area. Would you say it's a common name?

Some people say is quite elegant and timeless (Queen Victoria reminiscences) while others think it's a bit harsh, rough or even tacky...

What do you think? DP is Scandinavian and really likes it for our boy - but I'm not sure.

Thanks!

I associate it with Victor Meldrew, or Vic Reeves, but that's my age.

I met a Victor recently, he was Russian I think and I'd say in his 30s.

I don't particularly like it but that shouldn't mean anything to you!

Beanieton · 27/06/2024 06:28

I love it! I also love Vincent.

Pemba · 27/06/2024 06:21

It's old fashioned, imo I would group it with names like Kenneth, Keith and Trevor. A typical Victor is over 80 probably.

And yet it's not classic, and has a completely different vibe from Victoria (which I do quite like).

For short, it would be Vic, which reminds me of the vapour rub.

Sorry but I really don't like it and can't imagine a little boy with the name.

My 4 year olds middle name! It's a family name I love it!

Enough4me · 26/06/2024 23:37

Like it and the nn Vic. Don't like Vincent.

chairsaregreen · 26/06/2024 23:35

I see the name as posh. And strong.

KirstenBlest · 26/06/2024 23:27

Very french.

I think so too, although I haven't met a French Victor. It must be uncommon.

I love it, I would totally have used that name if I had a boy except I have a relative with the name, it's a strong name

Same! DS would have been Victor, but it was an impossible choice because of being a family name on ex DH's side (very common name in his country).

Victor is sweet and manly.
Reminds me of men who enlisted in WWI.

I don’t think Victor had ever been a commonly used name in the UK.

I strongly associate it with Victor Meldrew, I watched the programme with my grandparents.

I quite like it!

Always reminds me of an African call centre guy I spoke to. Hello you are through to Victor!

poppiepudding · 24/06/2024 20:39

great name

jackstini · 24/06/2024 17:12

My FIL, who is 83
I like it and most people call him Vic

OhFlapJack · 24/06/2024 17:02

DS has a friend called Victor- he's 13 and we've never met another one! It's a cool name and suits him. It doesn't get shortened to Vic or anything.

I like Vincent as well.

KirstenBlest · 24/06/2024 17:00

I really don't like Vincent. Sorry.

Mayhemmumma · 24/06/2024 16:57

I like it although prefer Vincent

longdistanceclaraclara · 24/06/2024 16:45

My PT is a Victor, mostly goes by Vic and I know a five year old who is firmly Victor. I think it's a great name.

Raiseyourglass24 · 24/06/2024 16:23

I know one in London in his 80s.

Sundaysunshine21 · 24/06/2024 16:21

good name - unusual but classic. I know a couple in their early thirties but no little ones. I really don’t think it’s a name that people might think is rough or tacky, both Victors I know are the opposite of that!

neveradullmoment99 · 24/06/2024 16:18

It's awful. Someone in my family has used this name and I personally don't Like it.

KirstenBlest · 24/06/2024 16:16

Love it. I only know one - about my age, and it really suits him.
It's cool.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 24/06/2024 16:01

Very french.
