I’d take people’s reactions on here with a pinch of salt too OP. I’ve found that MN perspectives on names tend to be heavily filtered through the British lens (understandably as a British website) and can be quite ignorant about more international names/names that fall outside the British top 100.

Xelawho · 22/06/2024 11:44

Love some of these names! I don’t know why some people are being rude - a lot of your options are both interesting and classic

Asa - top. Absolutely love this name. It’s traditional and biblical but feels really modern

Caspar
Felix
Miles
Corin
Rafe

Tor (popular middle name round here, we live in sight of beautiful tors…)
Jem

really don’t like Caspar or Joss

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/06/2024 23:05

2nd Asa - gorgeous and underused (probably as people worry about “asser“ )One of the few palindrome names for boys too
6th Caspar - nice sound but could have spelling issues, so prefer similar Caspian
3rd Jem - adore, but only as a nickname for classic James. Feels a bit insubstantial alone.
7th Felix - Meh, don’t love, don’t hate
4th Ivo- the nicest of the trendy “o” ending names, has an quirky earthy vibe
8th Rafe - much nicer than Ralph but still has a harsh sound to me
1st Corin- Stunning and classy Shakespearean. underused, probably due to girls Corinne.
10th Miles - still stereotypical posh boy to me, plus rhymes with Piles (childish)
9th Joss - not my cup of tea, I’d prefer as a nn for Jocelyn on a girl
5th Tor - interesting, I feel like I’ve only heard similar Torin but seems kinda cool.

Corin - great name; underused
Ivo - also keen on Iolo

Casper
Miles

NightPuffins · 21/06/2024 01:50

Corin - my favourite boys name!
Caspar - love it.
Tor - if you are pronouncing it as 'Thor'?
Asa - I love this name but know someone who used it with a wrong pronunciation and it really bothers me.

Miles - it's nice but there are so many of them now, it puts me off.
Jem - I like Jeremy but I only know Jem as a girls name on its own.
Ivo - my brain wants to write Ivor.
Felix - I associate it with cats.
Rafe - I can only see "rape" when I read this, sorry to any Rafes out there.
Joss - I'm not a fan. Joshua is nice.

Asa is pronounced AY-sa

Thank you for the opinions.

@AnCùDubh what do you mean “spelled properly “? I know Ralph Fiennes spells it differently but only ever seen it as Rafe in “real life”.

Ralph is pronounced Rafe. Rafe is a modern phonetic spelling.

Brukli · 21/06/2024 00:58

Rafe and Asa are OK.

Dispike the others. All a bit wet and pretentious.

I only like Miles too, sorry.
