I like those :) Merryn is cute- unusual, and sounds like 'merry'

OopsieeDaisy · 18/06/2024 21:40

Amber and Jasmine are both lovely, not too keen on the others.

In order:
Jasmine - yes
Lois - yes
Amber - yes
Leila- yes but there are so many L names popular now, also Leela vs Lay-la
Hazel - yes
Sabrina - yes, but is quite a strong-sounding name
Alma - yes

Layla - no, I don't like the spelling
Merryn - no, seems a bit unisex and not very pretty

CJ0374 · 16/06/2024 11:45

Leila / Layla- Prefer the Layla spelling. Also like Leah (Lee-ah)
Amber- like
Hazel- Reminds me of a 90yr old great aunt, but can see its a pretty name
Lois- dislike. Reminds me of superman.
Sabrina- the teenage witch. Dislike.
Jasmine- Love!
Alma-Dislike. No idea why, but I see an older woman chain smoking.
Merryn- Went to school with one and like it.

I believe Lowenna is also Cornish and means joy.

BoleynMemories13 · 16/06/2024 11:37

I love Hazel. Sabrina would be my next choice (although I prefer Serena). I know one Sabrina who shortens to Bree, which is sweet.

miniaturepixieonacid · 16/06/2024 10:35

Leila / Layla - quite like it. I think they're in a bit of a homogeneous lump witha a lot of other similar sounding names but they're pretty.
Amber - like it. Prerry and not overly popular.
Hazel - quite like it. And quite unusual for a child now, I think.
Lois - like it. Used to really dislike it but it seems elegant and cool at the same time to me now.
Sabrina - not keen. I can't not add 'the teenage witch' to the end but I suppose kuda now wouldn't do that.
Jasmine - ambivalent. It's a pretty name.
Alma - not keen. Seems a bit old lady. I don't think it's made the transition in the same way a lot of names from that generation have.
Merryn - like it. Unusual and pretty.

Ideas based on your list:
Alba, Aphra, Astrid, Bronte, Bethan, Blythe, Callie, Cassia, Celest, Darcey, Dana, Dulcie, Etta, Erin, Edith, Freya, Fleur, Faith, Greta, Grace, Giselle, Honor, Heidi, Holly, Isla, Ivy, Iris, Juno, Josie, Juliet, Kayla, Keziah, Kiki, Lola, Luna, Livia, Melody, Mirren, Meredith, Nadia, Nina, Noelle, Orla, Olive, Ottilie, Phoebe, Pippa, Posy, Robyn, Rose, Romy, Serena, Saffron, Sienna, Tamsin, Thea, Tamara, Verity, Violet, Veda, Willow, Willa, Winnie, Zoe, Zara, Zeryn

RuthW · 16/06/2024 09:31

Leila / Layla - too popular
Amber - lovely
Hazel - ok
Lois - nice
Sabrina - witches' name
Jasmine - too 90s
Alma - I find this an ugly name, sorry
Merryn - nice

I would choose Amber.

Heavenlyhoumous · 16/06/2024 09:21

Love Lois, also really like Merryn. Not a fan of Sabrina, sorry.

OpenRobin · 16/06/2024 07:37

Love Amber.
I also really like Jasmine, it would be on my list but I don't like the shortened versions of the name.
Really like Lois too.
All nice names, I don't think you'd go wrong with any of them

urbanbuddha · 16/06/2024 03:44

Merryn

AmelieTaylor · 16/06/2024 02:44

I really like Merryn, but I'd never use it because I don't like any shortings of it & I need a name I like shortened or is already short

I think Amber is already dated & Hazel even more so.

dislike Sabrina & Lois.

Jasmine is pretty, but it's the whole shortening thing again & not keen on Jas/mini/others

Alma, only if she's 65+ when you give birth!!-

Do you like Anna?

RogueFemale · 16/06/2024 01:56

Leila / Layla - Don't like but prefer Layla spelling, so many similar names out there
Amber - Like
Hazel - Hate
Lois - Family Guy cartoon wife Lois Griffin
Sabrina - Like
Jasmine - A bit precious
Alma - Hate
Merryn - Too try hard

Much prefer Scarlett, as a PP suggested.

Lifelikinotdothinki · 16/06/2024 01:17

Meredith

ItsNotAShopItsAStore · 16/06/2024 00:10

Love:
Hazel
Merryn
Lois

And you won’t get many others named this!

BobbyBiscuits · 16/06/2024 00:01

Love Amber, Lois and Jasmin.
I also love
Iris
Erin
Leni
Violet
Seraphine
Lark
Azelie
Laurel

stressedespresso · 15/06/2024 23:51

Love: Amber❤️, Leila (but not Layla!), Hazel
Like: Jasmine, Sabrina
Dislike: Lois, Merryn, Alma

Charlie2121 · 15/06/2024 23:49

Leila / Layla - mildly chavy
Amber - nice
Hazel - conjures up image of frumpy 60yr old
Lois - can’t get Lois Griffin out of my head
Sabrina - boys, boys, boys….
Jasmine - nice
Alma - see Hazel
Merryn - I’d get bored of spelling out to everyone

SomewhereOverTheHill · 15/06/2024 23:43

Leila / Layla - really like, prefer Layla spelling

Amber - I like it

Hazel - to me it’s middle aged sounding, I don’t know why because I don’t know anybody with the name.

Lois - I really don’t like it and just think of Superman

Sabrina - the teenage witch (showing my age!)

Jasmine - it’s ok, but often gets shortened to Jazz which I don’t like.

Alma -older lady

Merryn - ok, unusual.

hoarahloux · 15/06/2024 23:24

I think Lois might have certain unpleasant connotations from American sitcoms.

Alma for me is associated with a very elderly woman, it's not one that I've seen come back into general rotation - I think she'd be the only one in her class if that matters to you!

Love Jasmine, Hazel, Merryn and Amber. I know a number of preschoolers called Layla/Leila/Laila, there's been one almost every year for the past 15 years so it isn't going out of style.

ufdcnh2564 · 15/06/2024 23:19

All lovely!
