What are people's thoughts on Julian? Brother for Alex.

It's a great name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/06/2024 23:24

I’m a Julia and know a couple of others, as well as lots of (older) Julie’s and a Juliet. So whenever I hear Julian it sounds quite feminine to me - but maybe that’s because I’ve only ever met one Julian in RL (though weirdly I don’t find Julius sounds as feminine? 🤔)

With Alexander being such a timeless classic, I’d be tempted to find something perennially popular to match- maybe William? Then they would have Alexander the Great and William the Conqueror as namesakes - most boys would love that 🤣

Or if you want to continue in the Classical style, then I think Maximilian works really well with Alexander. Alex and Max sound like a cool pair.

My 42 year old cousin is called Julian, he’s a lovely guy but it’s an awful name.

mathanxiety · 11/06/2024 23:06

Nice name, and it goes really well with Alexander.

The pair together have a Greek and Roman feel to them.

I've never actually met a Julian in real life so I have no bias either way. Glad it's more liked than not!

I know two Julians - both real intellectuals.

Personally I love it and really want it for my next cat (as done having babies!)

It would make a great cat's name too!

No, but Ive only ever known slimy characters called Julian irl, so I’m probably biased!

Ditto !

Notunusal · 11/06/2024 19:51

Go for it, we’re planning our next baby and if it is a boy Julian is the name we have picked. I love the fact it is very unlikely that he will come across another.

Northerngirl89 · 11/06/2024 19:02

I have only met one irl. He's my boss and one of the kindest loveliest men I've ever met so I'd say do it. It's a lovely name :)

GodlessCommie · 11/06/2024 18:42

Beautiful, classic name. See Julian the Apostate. No one his age will have heard of the Famous Five - or possibly Madagascar.

longdistanceclaraclara · 11/06/2024 18:41

I actually work with three, two go by Jules and one is only ever Julian. They are all the same age bracket so I assume it was trendy at the time they were born.

I like it, also like Jude.

wastingtimeonhere · 11/06/2024 18:38

The only real life Julian I knew was lovely, he was my first proper boyfriend. I just wasn't as keen on him as he was me, so I broke it off. I occasionally get a pang of 'what if' I heard through old friends he is married with children so I'm happy he is settled and apparently very happy. I therefore think it's a nice name.

ginasevern · 11/06/2024 18:32

I think it's lovely and such a refreshing change from Archie, Alfie, Wilfie and the rest. It is a timeless and classical name which can be shortened to Jules which is pretty cool. Definitely go for it!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/06/2024 18:09

It makes me think of Ghosts, but that probably won't be an issue as your son grows up!

yumyumyumy · 11/06/2024 18:04

@DoubleBarelledNamesRock not keen on any of those. I really struggle with boys names though!

Great name. So much better than the ghastly and over prevalent 'Jude'

Yeah not keen on Jude either . I know a Judith who goes by Jude so it's a no already

Jules is nice. Not too keen on Julian

Lillieloola · 11/06/2024 17:58

Babadook76 · 11/06/2024 17:57

He’ll get ‘I like to move it move it’ sung at him all day

Lilacdew · 11/06/2024 17:55

It's a good name. It's not to my taste but I don't know why as it is a very strong, classic name. Go for it, if you like it.

TM1979 · 11/06/2024 17:54

Not the worst but all I can think of is Julian, Dick & George. It’s a bit wussy

This is a troll so we're taking this down now.

I completely love it. And you don’t get many, if any, baby Julians at the moment, so he’d likely be the only one in his class.

One of my much older sisters was a huge Teardrop Explodes fan. I discovered her record collection when she’d moved out and had a huge crush on Julian Cope, so I’ve always thought it was a cool name!
