What do you think of Judith? Could it make a comeback? What about Judy?

Like it and think Judy would be lovely as shorter everyday name.

Elsbetka · 11/06/2024 07:18

Biblical Judith was pretty bad-ass, if you like that kind of thing!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/06/2024 21:29

It's a very old name. William Shakespeare's younger daughter was called Judith. His older daughter was Susanna. Lovely names both.

Here's a wonderful Judith. RIP. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judith_Kerr

To be honest I've always disliked it. My mum has a few friends called Judith. But maybe for others it would seem less old fashioned.

FangsForTheMemory · 09/06/2024 18:38

Love Judith and Jude, not keen on Judy.

Violet17 · 09/06/2024 09:17

I like Judi but like a previous poster prefer Juliet.

Foxy1616 · 09/06/2024 09:14

I absolutely LOVE Judith - classic but not overused, easy to spell, unusual enough not to have 3 in the same class.
Will suit a child and an adult - so much better than Margot that seems so popular here!
(Judith was the name I always had in mind but never got to use 😕)

Donkeysdontdance · 09/06/2024 06:12

Awful boring and frumpy

Lifelikinotdothinki · 09/06/2024 04:30

I really like Judith.

DramaAlpaca · 09/06/2024 04:06

In its favour, it's a good strong classic name, not in the least bit cutesy or twee. I like that about it.

However, I just don't seem to like names with a 'th' sound in them, currently popular as a pp said. Also, with a couple of exceptions, I'm generally not a fan of Old Testament names.

So for those reasons, it's not my style.

iPreferBooks · 09/06/2024 03:55

My late Nan's neighbour is called Judith - lovely lady. I quite like the name.

NetMum2 · 09/06/2024 03:35

I found out late last year that I was nearly called Judith nn Judy, It was my dad’s favourite name - so glad my mum said no.

j much prefer Julia and Juliet.

I definitely think this era of names will come back, and loads of them are actually lovely:

Judith
Valerie
Pamela
Jean
Sandra

Etc.

I agree, I think Valerie and Sandra are particularly nice. I also really like Anita.

Judith is nice name, OP.

I only know one Judith - she's in her 60s, and is a very strange person

HcbSS · 08/06/2024 16:50

I love it.
Love Jean, Julia and Jillian too

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 08/06/2024 16:49

I've always liked the sound of it, but felt it was out of bounds for me to use because the meaning is "Jewish girl" and I'm not Jewish.

TwilightSkies · 08/06/2024 12:45

Frumpy. Kinda like Ruth. Judy is nicer.

RedRobyn2021 · 08/06/2024 12:43

I know someone in her mid 20s called Lisa and her name is totally the wrong era so it's a fine line IMO

Judy could be cute though

RedRobyn2021 · 08/06/2024 12:41

Sounds very old fashioned, middle aged

Isn't one of the kids in the Paddington books Judy?

I don't hate it though tbh

Will probably be the only one in the class called Judy

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 08/06/2024 12:21

I know a Judith in her 50's who is lovely but l am not sure l would have it as my dh would say Judiff!

AmelieTaylor · 08/06/2024 11:24

Not for me, unless I was giving birth to a 40 yo.

but babies/children make a name cute again, so if YOU like it, then use it!!

TheCultureHusks · 08/06/2024 11:20

It’s a great choice - never been popular enough to be too ordinary, good short form, classic, sounds lovely.

Soubriquet · 08/06/2024 11:19

One of my friends has a little girl called Judith. The only one I know

Maireas · 08/06/2024 11:17

Oh I see.
It's certainly a strong name and different to the current fashion for twee.

GreenShady · 08/06/2024 11:16

@Maireas I expect so, yes 😊
That was just my little joke.
