Honest Opinions on the name Finnick?

Hi! We are 21 Weeks with our first born son and have settled on the name Finnick. We were originally looking at Finnigan but much preferred Finnick. Really not keen on Finley and wouldn’t mind if it was shortened to Finn but want more than just Finn as his name. I know it’s a character in hunger games and we wanted a name that is really unique for him without being too weird - short backstory I went to school with a girl with the same first and last name as me and she was popular so I was deamed “unpopular xxxx” which wasn’t fun so I always said I wanted a unique name but I don’t want to push it too far and it be weird. Thanks ladies - P.S hormonal preggo here so please don’t be brutal.

You are in the mad name zone of pregnancy. I came up with some absolute horrors at that stage. My teens are aghast at what they were nearly called.

Dont do it he will hate you. When he’s 13 he will just be Finn and probably drop the end bit.

I like it.

I don't see it as too close to finicky. It will be shortened to Finn (which I also like) rather than lengthened.

I did love the Finnick character in the Hunger Games though so maybe I'm biased.

I like the name Finnick but it's because I loved the character in the films. Realistically though it's going to remind people of the word finicky and I wouldn't use it in real life.

I know two people who have called their dog Finnick, it’s a more popular name for pets than people. Finbar or Finton maybe?

I came to suggest Finbar too. I like Finnegan. But prefer Finley/Finlay and there’s a reason that’s the most popular Finn. I do like Finnick but of course it made me think of Finicky. If you think you’d mainly call him Finn why not just name him Finn?
Or how about Flynn?

Unpopular xxxx is awful, poor you OP. Kids can be so mean.

I'm not keen on Finnick, it makes me think of finicky which seems negative.

What about Finton?

I don't want to be brutal, but finnick is just finicky without the Y. You may as well just cut to the chase and name the child fussy or difficult.

I actually do quite like Finnigan. I think it sounds pretty cool. However, I think if name popularity matters, you have to consider that if he chooses to go by the nickname Finn, which is reasonably likely, his peers won't necessarily care what it's short for - it will all be seen as the same name, despite his different ending.

It sounds made up (is it?) and it sounds like finicky. What about fenwick? Pronounced fennick. It's a surname but at least it's a name. Will be a pronunciation headache for the poor kid forever though so maybe not.
