I'm due DS in just over 2 weeks and am undecided on a name. Which name do you prefer? Charlie or Stanley. Big brother is Louie.

I love Stanley. It was my late Grandad's name and he was an amazing man. I'm so glad it's becoming popular again. I only know of one boy called Stanley, whereas I know lots of Charlies. This would also put me off naming a child Charlie.

WheelofCheeses · 08/06/2024 10:27

I find Charlie boring and overdone. So Stanley I guess.

Mummyboy1 · 08/06/2024 10:22

I know a little Stanley! He's very cute and cheeky ! Love the name

CharlieBoo · 08/06/2024 09:59

Definitely Charlie.. (not biased at all 🥰)

I think it works better on all ages rather than Stanley.

Liv999 · 08/06/2024 09:54

Love Charlie, hate Stanley

yarnwitch · 08/06/2024 09:44

Stanley is cute for a baby but I'm not so keen on it otherwise.
Charlie is extremely popular, there seems to be one in every class around here. The ones I know are very likeable boys with big personalities and I haven't heard it shortened at all.

Kingsleadhat · 08/06/2024 09:31

I know a gorgeous little Stanley which has made me love the name. As a republican I find Charlie a bit regal 😆

Firsttimebabymummy · 08/06/2024 09:28

Charlie. It's supposed to be common tho but I only know of 1

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 08/06/2024 09:17

Yes, it doesn't bother me that some view it as an old fashioned name.

I like Stanley better. It is a friendly name. Charlie is so overused, there are dozens of them around.

I don't get this "old man name" complaint. Girls are getting called Enid and Ada because the vintage vibe is back in style and Stanley fits that trend perfectly.

Matildahoney · 08/06/2024 09:14

I will add OP I hated Stanley when DH mentioned it the first time, but it grew on me, and it suits him so well.
I know of a few people who were going to use it but had girls, and I have an acquaintance who had a Stanley a few years ago.

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 08/06/2024 09:10

Such a mixed bag! I like Charlie but don't like any shortened versions of the name such as Chaz or Char. I like Stanley and also like it shortened as Stan.

I think they are both great names. Stanley just edges in front.

Workawayxx · 08/06/2024 08:10

Stanley is lovely and I’ve only heard of a couple. I know a lot of Charlies (3 in DS’s year of 45 at primary and more at secondary) so it’d put me off for that reason. All the Charlie’s ds knows have to be known by nicknames or their surname. So he doesn’t have any friends he actually calls Charlie, they’re chaz, smithy, jones etc. it’s a shame as it’s a lovely name.

Moveoverdarlin · 08/06/2024 08:00

Love Charlie, hate Stanley. Stanley sounds like a 95 year old man who worked in scrap metal.

username47985 · 08/06/2024 07:59

Charlie.

LlynTegid · 08/06/2024 07:58

I'd choose Charlie.

Stanley is a name from the past. Think man born in the 1930s or 40s.

NetMum2 · 08/06/2024 07:57

I prefer Charlie.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 08/06/2024 07:46

Charlie for sure-though do Charles on the BC-the two adults I know used to go by Charlie as a NN but have both gone back to Charles now they are older.

TenThousandSpoons · 08/06/2024 07:45

Stanley

AfterDinnerIDrinkASoda · 08/06/2024 07:44

Love Stanley.

Lila878 · 08/06/2024 07:30

Stanley, and I also like Stan so if it gets shortened that’s nice too

PrincessOfPreschool · 08/06/2024 07:25

Are you in Essex? So many Louies and Charlies (I work with kids). My DS has about 5 Charlies in his year (secondary). I'd go for Stanley.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/06/2024 07:09

Charlie.

Love Charlie but dislike Stanley for some reason.

Matildahoney · 08/06/2024 07:08

We have a Stanley and everyone you meet tells you how lovely it is and how nice it is to hear it coming back again.
