Is this the name for us?

Baby boy will be born in a few days time, so exciting! We have almost settled on a name but it feels quite daunting picking a name that will stay with him for the rest of our lives.

Our top pick is Oliver (our surname is Grant).

Is this the name for us?! Help me decide please

I love this name, I think this is the one for you!

bloodyeffinnora · 12/06/2024 20:38

Good choice 👌

onewktogo · 12/06/2024 20:25

Thank you everyone. Despite it being in the top 10 I don’t know any Olivers personally. I have committed the name to a Father’s Day baby grow now!

I adore the name Oliver.

ladycarlotta · 12/06/2024 19:36

It's sweet. For what it's worth, there is not even one Oliver in my child's reception class. I'm not sure there's even one in the year. Even the most popular names are nowhere near as ubiquitous as they were back when we were kids.

I really, really love the name Oliver, but was vetoed each time! I don’t see it as a boring name whatsoever, common maybe, but I just think it validates my opinion when I hear my kids’ names!

I have a Biblical name that isn’t popular with my age group and as a kid hated being the only one in the class/year group. Not every child wants to stand out.

Lovely name.

bloodyeffinnora · 08/06/2024 19:58

Oliver is lovely

Springwatch123 · 08/06/2024 19:57

Oliver Grant sounds lovely.

However, if you want alternatives-
Peter
Michael
Jason
Daniel
Robert
Samuel

Was going to add Richard, but then thoughts of the actor Richard E Grant.

Jeannie88 · 08/06/2024 19:53

I wanted Oliver, husband wanted a different name, so we settled on one which was completely different! X

MaybeItWasMe · 08/06/2024 19:36

I know an Oliver Grant - lovely boy, great name. Will he have a middle name too?

Catscookbook · 08/06/2024 19:34

I love Oliver.

NetMum2 · 08/06/2024 19:29

Lovely name!

onewktogo · 07/06/2024 23:35

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your feedback! I knew someone would call it boring as it’s very common, which doesn’t offend me. I’d rather have a boring name which is suitable for all life stages than a name that people say ‘what?’ to whenever they hear it as it’s so unusual!

Very nice name. Suitable for all life stages.

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/06/2024 23:06

I love the name Oliver! If popularity doesn’t bother you, than go for it! (My son has a top 5 name and it’s never bothered him, me, or anyone else!)

Midnightscrolling · 07/06/2024 21:55

A lovely name OP. Agree with PP who said the name makes them think of a handsome and charismatic man. I think it sounds classic but not old fashioned. Go with your gut.

Louoby · 07/06/2024 21:28

Oliver is nice but ever so popular and boring if I'm being honest - sorry!

PurpleReindeer2 · 07/06/2024 21:22

Good name OP.

BoleynMemories13 · 07/06/2024 21:18

Oliver Grant nn Ollie Grant is a lovely, strong sounding combination. Traditional but cool. Definitely follow your heart on this one.

Your attitude towards there potentially being another Oliver in his class one day is refreshing in this day and age where most people seem so precious about the possibility of duplication. It never did me any harm either! A name isn't what makes someone 'unique'. So what if we share our name with others? A popular name means the name is generally well liked by many which is surely a good thing?!

PurpleChrayn · 07/06/2024 14:31

Nice!

TheCultureHusks · 07/06/2024 13:58

I put Oliver in with -

Oscar
Felix
Adam
Joseph
Rufus

Good solid names but with something more to them.

Fontainebleau007 · 07/06/2024 13:56

@onewktogo absolutely!! I think you have found your name :)x

Oliver Grant sounds like the name of a handsome and charismatic man. Possibly a bit of a player. Maybe a pilot. Firm handshake.

😂 exactly what we were going for, although I hope he isn’t a bit of a player.

I’m not too fused about there being more than one Oliver in his class (sorry son). There were 3 of us in my class with the same name and it never done me any harm!

Thanks for the suggestions @SparklesandRainbows, we do still prefer Oliver (which can only be a good sign I suppose!)
