Camille Linnea Manon

Hi,

After many years of trying, IVF and several losses I am now 32 weeks pregnant with our baby girl. DH is French and I am Norwegian.
We have decided on giving baby girl a French first name, mainly as my parents now live in the UK so we will spend less time in Norway (a week a year max) and also because we are more liked to move to France at some point than Norway. Obviously we also has a French surname so this will be more cohesive.

We have agreed on either 1 or 2 middle names as I do want a nod to baby girls Norwegian heritage in her name.

So far the winning French name is Camille, I love how pure and fresh it sounds. We also really like Manon but I like it more as a middle name.

My favourite name of all time is Linnea.

We would pronounce Camille the French way and are comfortable with the potential of correcting people, especially as a move to France is on the table in the next 5-10 years.

I really like Camille Linnea Manon but DH is worried it’s a bit long and my family worry that the 3 French - 1 well technically Swedish name means the Norwegian routes will be quickly forgotten.

Any opinions or ideas how we could make this work?

But she will only ever be Camille Hansen Montaigne apart from on her birth certificate. DS has a long name because he has both our surnames, but I’d far rather he had a long name than that he only had one parent’s surname.

This is lovely. if you feel it is too long then drop Manon (although it is a lovely name). Save it for a potential sibling?

I think people in the Uk could easily learn to say Cami as CA-mi but probably won't say Ca-MEE.

Is Linnea Li-NAY-a or LIN-nea? Or Li-naya?

I think all your names are lovely, I have to say! But I do agree that in the UK people will say Ca-MEEL or Ca-MILL, and although that doesn't feel annoying now, it might do further down the line.

Linnea I feel is too close to 'alinéa' in French (=indent) so I wouldn't use it as a first name. Middle name is fine.

I love Camille (especially the French pronunciation). Not keen on Manon.
Not hear or linnea before, it’s a fairly nice sound but makes me think of linear.
would definitely say go for camille and if you like the others use as the middle names. I think using both is fine

I think you should definitely add your last name hyphenated.

And she won’t lose her Norwegian heritage as surely she’ll speak the language? Which if she’s going to be trilingual is bloody amazing.

I'd swap the order to Camille Manon Linnea (or other third name). I think it flows better. I like the m, m, n, n, particularly the two Ms together, (then m-n-n in your surname).

The other way round seems much more of a mouthful to me.

I really like Camille too and think it works well with your surname.

I prefer your choice too! 😄 But it's nice he'd prefer your name to be in there.

99% of the time she will only be referred to as Camille Montaigne, which sounds delightful!

Middle names, I feel, are a wonderful opportunity to honour family, friends or wishes of one partner who didn't get their first choice for first name. So really pick whatever you love however it sounds all that matters is it's important to you and your partner.

My children both have 2 middle names. One has both their grandfather's the other has my husbands first choice of a name and a great grandfather. They do not flow, they are a pain in the neck to put on forms but they're special and the children rather like them too!

Your name choices are really lovely.

I think Camille Linnea Montaigne sounds fab. Not a big fan of Manon.

I'd drop Manon too, I don't think it goes with the other names, it's much harder and more masculine sounding. Camille and Linnea are gorgeous. I agree with others that Linnea does flow better with Montaigne than Camille - but Camille Montaigne is still really lovely. I wouldn't put Hansen in as well personally as I think hyphenated names always sound pretentious and are such a mouthful. So I'd go Camille Linnea Montaigne.

I love Camille Linnea and think this is absolutely valid choice.
I don't mind Camille Linnea Manon Montaigue, but worry Camille Linnea Manon sounds kind of showstopper-ish and makes pause between names more obvious.
What about
Camille Linnea Rose Mont
Camille Linnea Svea Mont
Camille Linnea Sif Mont
Camille Linnea Liv Mont

I would drop Manon, but I think three names would make Camille Linnea combo stand more, in uplifting way... but I would say Manon doesn't really fit

But then again, middle names aren't really used most of the time, so I think full combo is still fine

Camille is lovely. I am trying to think how a French pronunciation would differ from the English?

Anyway, middle names are fun to choose but do not matter a jot in life. Nice to have but utterly pointless so I wouldn’t spend time fretting over them.

And hyphenate it with Montaigne. I have the same with my name and pick and choose which I drop off (but obvs not for official documents/passport etc). It's no bother

If your surname is your maiden name, KEEP the Hansen!
