Daniel might not always be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s very classic and timeless and is unlikely to ever cause DS any problems - you can’t guess the age or background of a Daniel and most people can spell it and pronounce it.

Dougie could be problematic as a given name in that half of people will pronounce it “Duggie” and half “Doogie”. Some might even spell it Duggie too. Douglas is nice though if you have any Scots links, and I think as just a nn Dougie is fine.

I know my 19 year old lad would not appreciate being called Douggie..

Daniel is classic and Dan is lovely

Love Dougie

Firsttimebabymummy · 06/06/2024 21:17

Daniel. Don't like the other sorry

KnitnNatterAuntie · 06/06/2024 16:47

Daniel is classic and about as non-problematic as you could hope for

Dan is a nice shortened version

Sorry, but I'm really not keen on Dougie

SoupDragon · 06/06/2024 16:40

Daniel by a very long way.

unless you are naming a dog, in which case Dougie.

Mumofgirls2017 · 06/06/2024 16:30

Daniel

IsThePopeCatholic · 06/06/2024 15:45

Daniel

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/06/2024 15:29

Daniel. Timeless ( and it's my DS2 middle name!)

DramaAlpaca · 06/06/2024 15:16

Daniel. It's lovely.

Douglas is OK, but not Dougie. One of those boys' names I relegate in my head to middle names only, as I dislike the diminutives.

Snoopystick · 06/06/2024 15:15

Daniel. Lovely name.

shoopshoopdedoo · 06/06/2024 15:09

Daniel

Daniel

Aquamarine1029 · 06/06/2024 14:25

I don't care for Daniel, but Dougie is really, really awful.

bloodyeffinnora · 06/06/2024 14:24

Daniel

ginasevern · 06/06/2024 14:23

Dougie just isn't a name, it's a nickname. Not a particularly attractive sounding one either. Daniel on the other hand is timeless and classic and Dan is a good solid short version.

OP, I don't know how you can like a lovely name like Daniel and also think Dougie is a good choice.

RuthW · 06/06/2024 14:14

Daniel or Douglas

NetMum2 · 06/06/2024 14:13

Daniel. These are such different names to choose from!

Favouritefruits · 06/06/2024 14:07

Daniel is lovely it’s my first sons middle name, it’s not popular but classic

InTheRainOnATrain · 06/06/2024 14:03

Dougie = Hey Duggee. It’s really not an ideal for a preschooler and I just can’t see it being a fitting name for an older child and eventual adult. Daniel on the other hand is a lovely classic and one you don’t hear that much these days. So perfect IMO!

maw1681 · 06/06/2024 14:01

Douglas is nice though, shortened to Dougie

maw1681 · 06/06/2024 14:00

Daniel.....Dougie just makes me think "Hey Dougie "

sandorschicken · 06/06/2024 13:58

I really like Dougie and dislike Daniel. However, in my area of the world 'Dougie' is a word to insult some who isn't very intelligent.

Daniel or Dougie?

Neither, I would choose Douglas over both
If I have to choose between the two - Daniel, but I would rather choose neither. I would choose Daniel because Dougie sound juvenile, nicknamey and American and I just think it sounds bad as full name. But Douglas would be my choice over both.
