Hi! We've finally settled on naming our daughter Marjorie, and now we're just looking for middle names. It doesn't need to have familial significance since Marjorie does already, so any suggestions you've got would be lovely!

This is our list so far:

Marjorie Eloise
Marjorie Aurelia
Marjorie Renée
Marjorie Juliette

FYI - she's a triplet (2 girls 1 boy) and the other girl was to be Cecilia Renée, but we're willing to switch it to something else if Renée works better for Marjorie! So something like Marjorie Renée, Cecilia Eloise IYSWIM. TIA!

It is the most grandmothery name! Mine was universally known as marj.

Anything but Marjorie.. sorry OP but it’s awful”

No, it really isn’t. It’s also a treasured family name.

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/06/2024 20:25

Really, really like Marjorie Aurelia. Flows beautifully.
congratulations.

I was afraid people would think this I just think it's so cute!! Might have to rethink but it's so pretty to me, and I like Jorie and Rory as nicknames. Wouldn't call her Marge or Margy, but even Maggie is fine I think, but I like Rory the best.

Edited

Don't 'rethink' it just because someone doesn't like it.

If you like it, go with it, otherwise every child will end up called Zenox, or Will.who.He, or Tik-Tox and every house will be grey inside and out.

Cecilia Juliette (CJ is a cute option)

I would be so unhappy if my sister was Cecelia / CeCe / CJ and I was Marge!!! Especially considering they’re twins.

If you do go with Marjorie OP I’d really push the Rory or JoJo of it all.

Cecilia is classic but Marjorie is old fashioned, there’s a big difference between the two names.

When I saw your first post and that there are girl twins I thought Cecelia Renee & Juliette Marjorie combination would be lovely

I don't love Marjorie but I don't need to - like others though I think there's disparity between the two forenames

Fullofpudding · 04/06/2024 19:39

Please not Marjorie. Imagine being a teenager called Marjorie Blush There was a girl at my school called Marjorie and we called her Margarine 🧈 Or she'll be like Marge Simpson!!

Overtheatlantic · 04/06/2024 19:33

Merriweather

Overtheatlantic · 04/06/2024 19:32

Merryweather

WetBandits · 04/06/2024 19:30

Marjorie 🫣 I’m not sure it’s due a revival ever yet, and it doesn’t really go with Cecilia and Jasper as a sibset.

If you’re firm on Marjorie, make sure she has a lovely middle name as she may well decide to use that instead!

verylongday · 04/06/2024 19:27

I would be so upset if i was called Marjorie and my sister had the beautiful name Cecilia.
My sister has a beautiful name. I have a really dated, clunky name. Ive always hated it. I have always been jealous of my sister because of it.
Please don't call her Marjorie. Eloise is so much nicer.

FluffMagnet · 04/06/2024 19:24

I'm sorry OP, but as much as I loved my (very glamourous) Great Aunt Marjorie, I always pitied her for her name. All I can think is lucky Cecelia and Jasper...

Eloise is wonderful.

JustWannaBeWorthIt · 04/06/2024 19:18

If you're up for reconsidering...Marjorie is honest to god awful. So wet and drippy.

Marge? Who wants to end up being called that?

caringcarer · 04/06/2024 19:16

Marjorie Jane.

pinkdelight · 04/06/2024 18:45

She will totally get called Marge whether you intend it or not.

Phantasmagorically · 04/06/2024 18:43

Marjorie.

Well I never.

LlynTegid · 04/06/2024 18:42

If you'd called me Marjorie I would have been using my middle name as soon as possible.

Please be kind to your child and choose another name.

Moreteaandchocolate · 04/06/2024 18:41

I would only choose Marjorie if you like Marge - in my experience you can control shortenings in primary school but that changes in secondary school!

millennialprobs · 04/06/2024 18:24

Marjorie May/Mae sounds nice :)

Miloandfreddy · 04/06/2024 18:16

Marjorie is my favourite Taylor Swift song, a lovely one for her late grandmother. I know that's not what you asked but if you haven't heard it give it a listen. Beautiful name.

SquawkerTexasRanger · 04/06/2024 18:12

Hi OP,

something worth considering is that she might be nicknamed Marge by her friends and it might stick even if you don’t like it. My DD has a nickname I’m not a fan of for the same reason

I'm afraid I agree it's an awful name to be saddled with. As for posters suggesting Rose...FFS, 2 out of 3 girls have it as their middle name. SO done to death. I'd suggest Faith.

Faith is just as naff as Rose, if not more so.

Marjorie is lovely.

Some suggestions...
Marjorie Helene
Marjorie Suzanne
Marjorie Anne
Marjorie Catherine/Katrina
Marjorie Noelle

I know you weren't asking an opinion on Marjorie and I know it is coming back! But from where.
I have to say my grandma was Marjorie born in 1922. She got called Madge by her workmates. She didn't have a middle name. But I can't say I ever liked the name and just called her things like wonderful nansie or grandma.
But I loved the actress called Margi Clarke.

For what it's worth I think Marjorie Rose is the nicest but I just say Marjorie Dawes! Sorry.
