Boys name - Rian

Hi there, I recently found out I’m having my third boy and need help with names!
we have a Jack and a Tommy (Thomas) already.
I really like the name Rían (said as ree-an) which is Irish for Ryan.
we live in England but our families are both Irish so like the Irish connection but just worried he might be forever explaining his name.
Thoughts on Rían or any suggestions for classic but Irish names?

I like Ruan. Another Irish name. I'm inclined to think Rian might get mistaken for the feminine rhianne. In prononciation at least. I actually like Ryan a bit more.

I know little girls called Rhian with the same pronunciation so that would rule it out for me.

I love the name Rían. It's very popular in Ireland at the moment. People over in the UK might struggle with spelling/ pronounciation so it depends how important that is to you.

I don’t like it, or Ryan or Brian, and in England I bet many will call him Ryan or sound like they’re calling him the female name Rihanne. There are way worse names out there, this is just my
opinion.

Also, your older DS's both have names that are extremely well known so I think you may have issues if you give your younger DS a really unusual name

One of the children in my family has a very old-fashioned name which wasn't popular when he was a child. The younger children have well known names. Every time we went to a shop where there were items with names on, the oldest child would get upset that there was nothing with his name whereas the younger children could always find things were their names on. This may not sound like a huge issue but the oldest one still mentions it and has given his own DC very common names.

Well, it’s good that it’s not hard to spell, and people WILL ask - I’m Welsh, I know all about names that that sound and look odd to non-Welsh people 🤣
I quite like it, though it does remind me of Rhian, a Welsh girls name. I wouldn’t worry about him having to explain it, I think lots of Irish and Welsh people are used to that.

Rían means little king in Gaeilge as well as Ryan. Beautiful name.

As you said, I would be curious how will he manage the fada ? Because it is a different word without it? Does the local accent read it as it is meant to be pronounced? Or will he spend a lot of time correcting them.
