We're having a second baby girl, and can't come up with a name we love. The middle name for this one is likely to be Pearl.

Both DP and I like:
Elsa/Ilsa only put off by Frozen associations or spelling
Willa
Nina
Ruby
Rosa

Names one of us likes but the other has vetoed
Aphra
Jane
Leni
George (not short for anything)
Maggie (because dislike Margaret)

We wouldn't use Maude, Stella, Edith, Clementine, Margot or Nell.

Love Rosa. Or what about just Rose? Simple but beautiful.

Thanks everyone for your ideas!
We've chatted (with DD) and tentatively added
Polly
Mabel
Eve
Joan (Joanie)

I don't think I could have a Polly Pearl though 😬

Lovely shortlist! :)

JimNast · 26/05/2024 19:13

Polly and Joanie are really nice.

Did I say she would be?

Actually Clara and Lucinda is very cute! And similar imo.

Elsie is nice but everywhere... I'm wondering about Elspeth to give the option of Elsie/Elsa nn.
Ailsa is lovely too.

Snap!

howonearthdoesithappen · 26/05/2024 13:23

Clara and Regan

Newsenmum · 26/05/2024 13:23

My immediate thought was Eliza Pearl or Elsie Pearl. Could be Elspeth, Elsa for short?

That’s a nice idea, Elspeth, known as “Elsie”.

Personally, if having Pearl (an item/name) I'd have a name name as first. So not Ruby, Olive, Daisy etc but just my opinion!

I totally agree, and Daisy Pearl would be extra weird since I think of both as names to do with Margaret, therefore a bit of a tautology.

I like Nina. Sorry but like the name Ruby but not with a second name of Pearl.

Same

ladygindiva · 26/05/2024 12:52

Nina Pearl
Gorgeous
Don't like the others as much

Ruby (not with pearl as mn though), Rosa, or Leni.
Please not George for a girl. As a nn to Georgina or similar is fine but not just George.

THANK you! George for a girl is my DP's choice. I think it's always been the name he imagined for a daughter but I've firmly vetoed. Have gracefully accepted vetoes from him too.

I'd go for Clara and Rosa Pearl, out of those. Clara and Ruby is lovely too, but I'm not sure about Ruby Pearl

I think it's sweet to let them have some input! My daughter is 5 and very much regards us as a trio, to her the baby is 'our' baby. However, most of her name choices are batshit so I think I'll probably let her feel part of things by discussing the shortlist with her and no more than that. My dad chose his youngest sibling's middle name which I think is probably an appropriate level of involvement.

Yes, that is lovely and I think you're wise to limit your DD's choice to your shortlist. What an exciting time it is for her 😀

My DF also chose his youngest siblings middle name!
