Looking for some thoughts on the name Blair please?

And if possible some suggestions of names similar, preferably one syllable and with an American unisex vibe.

Thanks x

@sashh Yes! Blair Peach was the Blair I'd heard of when we named DS3.

rhubarbcrumblez · 13/05/2024 18:10

I love Blair, it's a favourite of mine. I imagine someone really elegant!

peanutbuttertoasty · 08/05/2024 21:11

Tony or Cherie? 🤮

Sundaysunshine21 · 08/05/2024 20:57

not all one syllable but some quite unisex and American feel names you might like:

Bree
Reign
Avery
Blake
Shay
Navy
Quinn
Corey
Rae
Brody
Harley
Parker
Jolie
Reid

TheFutureFreaksMeOut · 08/05/2024 16:20

To me it just sounds like blehh

miniaturepixieonacid · 08/05/2024 11:39

There's a Thatcher on Grey's Anatomy. Male admittedly.

JimPansy · 08/05/2024 09:07

Eden and Heath are former Prime Ministers' surnames that could be used as first names.
Wilson and Callaghan would be OK if you like surnames as first names. Thatcher or Truss not so much.

GoodVibesHere · 07/05/2024 06:35

Well I guess it's better than Thatcher

That's just made me realise that Thatcher, Blair, Cameron and May can all be used as first names - quite a high percentage of recent UK prime minister surnames.

Eta, I quite like it for a girl but it makes me think Blair Waldorf.
Blake
Brynn
Bree
Brooke
Paige
Quinn
Rae
Raine
Sloane
Star
Tate

DemBonesDemBones · 08/05/2024 08:25

Another one that immediately thinks Tony. It's a no.

BoohooWoohoo · 07/05/2024 17:07

I think that Tony has ruined it for UK babies unless you’re very young so maybe gone for a Gossip Girl tribute ?

outlandishly · 07/05/2024 17:04

I like it.

Dylan is a nice name that I've seen used for girls. Quite cool but still pretty.

LlynTegid · 07/05/2024 13:07

Please no.

SirChenjins · 07/05/2024 12:50

It’s a standard Scottish name - no-one bats an eyelid at it up here. If you’re going for an American vibe then it’s an odd one to choose.

Pumpkindoodles · 07/05/2024 12:47

It would never occur to me it was in any way connected to Tony Blair, especially on a girl. I find these threads fascinating because people assume ‘everyone’ thinks the same as them and has the same references as them.

i like Blake too

kingqueenprincess · 07/05/2024 10:56

It would be for a DD we'd use it for. We have a DC1 so I attempted to describe the name to see what everyone thought so that both DC names could sit well with one another.

Love some of the names you've all added, so thank you. Not too worried about the Tony Blair association. I forgot about Christmas with the Kranks - I love that film!!! When JLC runs to the phone BLAIRRRR. Hahaha - I'm sold!

Hey Upper East Siders, Gossip Girl here... I really like it. xoxo

ClipClopperDontStopper · 07/05/2024 10:16

Everyone will assume Blair is a nod to Tony, so be prepared for that.

I certainly wouldn't.

Moveoverdarlin · 07/05/2024 10:05

Just pick one syllable surnames. Personally I hate this trend. Everyone will assume Blair is a nod to Tony, so be prepared for that.

Blake
Brooks
Barnes
Harris
Paige
Brett
Wolfe

@elp30 it's a long time since I've seen that movie!

Well I guess it's better than Thatcher

🤣🤣 though that also works for “American unisex vibe”
Swear to god people just troll their own kids sometimes 🤷‍♀️

Witch

Peach?

nothingsforgotten · 07/05/2024 04:35

I'm not in the UK but Blair was quite a common name here at one stage, usually for boys. I quite like it - it was my DH's name.

VashtaNerada · 07/05/2024 04:32

I don’t think you can use Blair in the UK, it immediately makes people think of Tony.
Re Blaine, I was also going to quote Pretty in Pink @elp30 😁

Topseyt123 · 07/05/2024 04:31

Not my cup of tea.

Are you a big fan of the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair?
