Not long to go now so time to post a baby name thread. Top 5 boys are Eli, Sebastian, Gianluca (Luca) Giacomo & Leonardo (Leo) (not Italian but baby conceived in Sardinia!). Top 5 girls are Rohanne, Cecily, Genevieve (prob shorten to Eve), Maeve & Bridie. No idea if baby is pink or blue so need to have one of each. Off work for a couple of days now with bad back so could do with some chuckles from you witty MNers! Let rip ladies, promise no offence will be taken! PS I love Queenie but DP disapproves. Is he right?

Queenie is dreadful! I don't like Eli much either. Sebastian and Leo are nice and I like Cecily and Maeve best for girls.

Sebastian is OK, Cecily is fine too.
Your DC will NOT be amused that they are named after a place where you had sex. A teenager will die of embarrassment.
Your DP is right about Queenie, by the way. Didn't you ever read Adrian Mole?

also if you have an Italian surname then an Italian first name is fine but imho an italian name with an english surname sounds daft!

Gianluca Maynard does not sound good.

As I say on all these baby name threads DO THE TEST!!!!!

'This is Gianluca Ashton, News at Ten, in Iraq.'

Of the names you have I would go for Seb and Cecily.

and HATRICK, IMHO Nico is a great name but go for Nicolas and not Nicola as it is a totally different sound in Italian to English. More a Nic-ola than Nickerlar iyswim! Nickerlar is the girly sounding English one!

I agree something like Gianluca Smith might not "go" my Dad has a very common Italian first name but my Gran remarried so he has v Italian name - very Scottish name and it just doesn't sound right.

Madame, thanks for your post. Have no idea whats what in the world of children at the mo. Mentioned the name Milo at work and all the mothers laughed at me. I'd never bloody heard of the tweenies!

True - maybe you don't want a sweet name. But to me, all those Evie/Gracie/Katie/Sophie/Ellie/Lily type names that are so popular are just as cutesy. Queenie is a bit rock n roll. I can imagine Paula Yates would have liked the name

Luca and Maeve for me. Queenie evokes an Eastenders type matron for me. Would also steer away from very Italian names but thinl Luca would sound fine.

Oh dear Lord, Seeker - A PASTY? Really? This is why I ask. Bridie now off girls list (was at the bottom anyway as DP grunted rather than agreed. Hoping child will inherit my dark features - black hair & almost black eyes. DP of the mousy persuaion with green eyes, I think my genes will win. MrsMattie, Queenie is just soooo sweet isn't it? I appreciate all other comments on it and agree that as I'm naming this child for life maybe its not so suitable for anyone betwen the ages of 2 & 60. Perhaps I'll get a cat.

And I think Mrs Mattie's reaction to Queenie is interesting. DO you really want a "sweet" name when you're an adult woman with a kick ass career?

I think we need to remember that we are naming teenagers and 50year olds as well as babies and toddlers.

Are you and dp fair or dark? I REALLY think you need to be dark to carry off the Italian names!

Be aware that a Bridie is a pasty in Scotland.

p.s. i know a grown woman called Queenie. I think it's very sweet, actually - a true cockney London name . However, the Queenie I know is constantluy having to tell people that yes, Queenie really is her name, and no it's not a nickname or short for something...

Of the boys names, I like Eli best, although all the names are nice imo.

I like Genevieve and Maeve for a girl, but really not keen on the others.

That's Barbie Genevieve. THere is a Disney connection too though. She's one of the dancing Barbies. Donchano?!?!

I'd use Max and Milo and Barnaby and Annabel and the names of some other various dolls and characters. But the names of the other barbies are kennedy, madison, Tanner.... all terrible!!

Just had a thought, what about Sabrina? Has a touch of Sardinia about it.

Oh I love Maeve - it was to be dd's name until about 2 weeks before she was born when we suddenly realised it didn't go with our surname (I blame pregnancy hormones, I don't know what DH's excuse was).

Boys - I would favour sebastian from your list although like Leo and Luca too.
