My DH and I are expecting our first and very likely only child, we want her name to be absolutely perfect.
Top of our list right now is Verity but I want to know what your thoughts are on the name, what would you imagine someone named Verity to be like, what connotations does the name have for you?
Do you like the name Verity?

I love it. Really pretty and a great meaning.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/05/2024 21:20

I absolutely love virtue names, Cadence and Patience are nice too, but Verity is gorgeous!

Beachs · 02/05/2024 21:12

I'm dyslexic and Verity is one name I really struggle with so usually pronounced vuhrehvity or variety. But that’s just me so I personally hate the name

I know 2. 1 is 45 and the other 9. Both blonde with blue eyes- yet unrelated! Other than the 'Ferrety Verity' link, its a nice, less commonly used name but not too 'out there'.

MyLovelyPurse · 02/05/2024 20:14

Agree with all the above. It’s classic but not common. Feminine but not ‘girly.’ It’s also a great virtue name (truthfulness) which isn’t a virtue only associated with surrendered women. It’s a unisex admirable virtue.

Tootytoot78 · 02/05/2024 20:09

I know two separate families whose surname is Verity, didn't name any of their daughters Verity though.
I think Verity Verity has quite a nice flow to it.

PotatoPudding · 02/05/2024 20:00

I think it’s a lovely name. Verity Rushworth is an actress and seems like a lovely person. I always think of her when I hear it.

RuthW · 02/05/2024 19:37

Lovely

longdistanceclaraclara · 02/05/2024 19:27

I wanted it 12 years ago, H vetoed it. Still love it and regret not using it.

PersephonePomegranate23 · 02/05/2024 18:57

I think it's lovely!

Violetparis · 02/05/2024 18:36

Posh Tory girl.

Firsttimebabymummy · 02/05/2024 18:22

Love it. Was on my list. Very pretty and not over used

Churchview · 02/05/2024 15:32

The only Verity I know is the huge Damien Hirst statue in Ilfracombe Harbour. She's a love it or hate it statue - I love it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/05/2024 15:16

Adore Verity. First saw the name in the Agatha Christie book Nemesis ( brilliant book although the Verity character has a tragic end). So Verity makes me think of an elegant, upper class/ upper middle class young woman - probably slim and fair. I love the meaning too - one of the more subtle virtue names.

WoolyMammoth55 · 02/05/2024 13:41

There is a 7 yo Verity in my son's class at school. She's kind and very cute and it's a prefect name for her. I totally approve!

user1492757084 · 02/05/2024 13:39

Verity reminds me of ferrits too, though it's not a bad name.
I prefer Liberty, Amity, Clemency, Felicity, Victoria, Eliza, Alice, Charlotte and Cressida.

HashB · 01/05/2024 21:32

I don’t think it sounds the prettiest, I think it’s the -ity part. But appreciate it’s a classic name that isn’t overdone.

Oranitle · 01/05/2024 19:34

I have perhaps a bit of an irrational hatred for this name. It makes me think of ferrets, or a really posh horsey girl.

Alloveragain3 · 01/05/2024 19:05

Love it and love the meaning

Don't know any IRL which makes it an even more attractive option to me

FayCarew · 01/05/2024 18:59

Prudence is lovely.

Mitsouko1919 · 01/05/2024 18:58

I like it. My first best friend was called Verity. That was when we were 3 at nursery in 1978! I've never forgotten the name. I like virtue names, especially Prudence, Constance and Faith.

Sageyboots · 01/05/2024 18:43

The one I knew at uni was posh, tall, with a lovely but reserved character. Nice name.

marshmallowfinder · 01/05/2024 18:37

No. It sounds like ferret-y.

TeabySea · 01/05/2024 18:32

I know 2 Veritys. One is early 20s, the other about 7. The older one is quite quiet and serious, the younger one very outgoing.
It's a lovely name. Possibly harder to nickname.
