Originally going to be called Jim after my granddad, but we've found out we're having a girl. Would this work?

Jemima is much, much better. A good name in its own right too.
And several short variations are available should you wish to use them.

Nevaeh-Mij surely. Grin

Midge Ure's real name is Jim (James, obviously), but when he was much younger, somebody reversed it for a lark and called him Mij (which became Midge) plus he's quite small and it stuck.

Midge would at least be not-as-bad-as Jimberley.

Wishimaywishimight · 29/04/2024 12:04

Jiminy with Cricket as a middle name 😃

Needanewname42 · 29/04/2024 12:04

Sorry Op Jimberly almost sounds like Jamboree

Jamie, Jamesina, Jemima (which is a playschool doll to many of us).

Or choose one of her Granny's names.

She left him for a taxi driver. 😕

You asked for opinions so here goes.
Its absolutely terrible.
Why laden a girl with that?

JaninaDuszejko · 29/04/2024 12:00

Jimberley is hilarious.

I think I love Jamesina the most but here's some other James related girls names: Jacqueline (and all its derivatives), Jemma, Jacinda, Jean, Jacoba.

What's the taxi driver called?

Overtheatlantic · 29/04/2024 11:53

What part of Alabama are you from?

Hakeje · 29/04/2024 11:51

No.

No.

No.

The child deserves her own name, that is easy to use and functional. Try to think of her as a person in her own right, not a tribute to another person.

TheFireflies · 29/04/2024 11:50

Jimbolina is what you’re looking for, OP

Netruscan · 29/04/2024 11:50

Westfacing · 29/04/2024 11:33

What's your grandmother's name? (wife of Jim)

She left him for a taxi driver. 😕

PlantLight · 29/04/2024 11:50

They are their own person not a memorial and will forever feel they’re living in someone’s shadow. Sorry for the loss of your grandad. Maybe a middle name if you have too? We were going to honour grandparent but decided we wanted them to have their own name and it was freeing.
Of he was Jim that was James, then Jemima/Jasmine etc would still be enough of a link.

But otherwise just no.

Moonshine5 · 29/04/2024 11:49

No

elevens24 · 29/04/2024 11:49

Sounds like a biscuit.

eileandubh · 29/04/2024 11:49

Another vote for Jemima - which will sound like Jimima, even if it's not spelled that way.
