Originally going to be called Jim after my granddad, but we've found out we're having a girl. Would this work?

Uberina or Minicaba, then.

Just laughed loudly out loud in a shop queue. Staff staring at me in concern. 😅

To be fair people probably said similar about Nigella once upon a time!

Jujubeez · 29/04/2024 13:14

That's a tradegdeigh! 😜

Go with Jamie or a variant thereof.

I mean it's an interesting question why we find Kimberly ok and Jimberly not ok, but I would stick with one of the pretty James derivatives suggested.

Good point. Jimberly made me laugh out loud, just not sure why..

LiterallyOnFire · 29/04/2024 13:11

We considered that but I think it's spelt : Jemima

Now you mention spellings, I believe Jimberley is spelt K-I-M-B-E-R-L-E-Y.

FineWordsButterNoParsnips · 29/04/2024 13:11

Only if the middle name is Garybelle

DramaAlpaca · 29/04/2024 13:07

@JassyRadlett we have someone in our family who goes by Jimothy as an affectionate nickname. I must remember to tell him he got off lightly, it could have been Jimberley Grin

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 29/04/2024 13:04

I prefer Jimmogene, Jimmy for short.

Megifer · 29/04/2024 12:55

"Jimevieve"

That's a belter 😂😂😂😂

JassyRadlett · 29/04/2024 12:55

Jimothy is our family joke name, because my eldest for a long time didn't associate it with James (despite having close family members called James) thought if Tim was short for Timothy then Jim must really be Jimothy.

I see now that it could easily have been Jimberley.

SittingBackAndWatchingTheClowns · 29/04/2024 12:53

How ridiculous.

Lampzade · 29/04/2024 12:53

Please do not do this to a child

Sounds like those combined house names where the owners are Jim and Kimberley like Casa Bevron😁

Casa Bevron!! That’s a blast from the past, this thread is killing me.

It sounds like the name of one of the toys from the old BBC children's programme ' play school ' or a name of a teletubbie !

Or a Game of Thrones-type name, where an actual normal name has deliberately been modified slightly by changing a letter!

Bimblesalong · 29/04/2024 12:50

Joe Lycett, is this you? Are congrats in order?

It's beautiful. Wish I'd had a daughter to name that

SeanBeansMealDeal · 29/04/2024 12:36

Incidentally, to go back to the OP:

Originally going to be called Jim after my granddad, but we've found out we're having a girl.

Did it really not occur to you that there was a 50% chance of the baby being a girl? It sounds like discovering that she is has now come as a massive surprise to you! Seems a bit odd to make decisive plans based on a 50/50 chance.
