Originally going to be called Jim after my granddad, but we've found out we're having a girl. Would this work?

@Maverickess , "Jemima is the female version of James isn't it?" No.

JimALynn has a lovely ring to it.

'Get extra shiny windows with just a squirt of Jimalynn'.

Maverickess · 29/04/2024 13:42

This is a wind up right? 😳

Jimberley........ Just no.

Jemima is the female version of James isn't it? Which Jim is short for? Or Jemma? What's wrong with that?

OP is probably exhausted by GCSE revision.

We were considering Hughetta....but it didn't go well with our surname which is All-da-Pies....

Uberina or Minicaba, then.

Taxita. Got a bit of a Mexican vibe.

Scarlett Jimpernelle

This is a joke? Tell me its a joke PLEASE

How about Jimobel or Jimoline?

Jimolene sounds like a cream for something sore. Not as bad as Anusolalina as a name but not great either.

TheCultureHusks · 29/04/2024 13:36

This is even better than the Hugo thread

WaltzingWaters · 29/04/2024 13:34

please tell me this is a joke.

NO!

CaraMiaMonCher · 29/04/2024 13:34

How about Jimobel or Jimoline?

Sounds like a cleaning product

Unopenedpackofmenssocks · 29/04/2024 13:33

LakeTiticaca · 29/04/2024 13:28

My mum was a cleaner and cleaned for a lady called Jamesina. Never heard that name before or since, but its slightly more acceptable than Jimberley 😅
I think Jaime would be better for a girl

It was fairly common in Scotland a few generations back. The actress Anna Maxwell Martin found out about an ancestor called Jamesina on Who do You Think You Are?

I met a Kevina once.

Totorooooo · 29/04/2024 13:32

LiterallyOnFire · 29/04/2024 13:11

We considered that but I think it's spelt : Jemima

Now you mention spellings, I believe Jimberley is spelt K-I-M-B-E-R-L-E-Y.

😂

Totorooooo · 29/04/2024 13:31

Loving this. How about:
Jimabella
Jimogen
Jimelda
Jimsin?

Or go Spanish:
María de la Jimaculada Concepción

Nigella is from the flower/plant

Her Dad was called Nigel though, it’s clear why it was chosen and it was not as a culinary tribute. Her late sister was called Thomasina, other one is Horatia, family obvs liked feminised boys’ names.

It's lovely @Netruscan , go for it.
Alternatives:
Jamesina
Jimi
Jimelda
Jimaya
Jimanuelle
Jimelia
Jimena

Jimanuelle has me wheezing

To be fair people probably said similar about Nigella once upon a time!

Nigella is from the flower/plant

SeanBeansMealDeal · 29/04/2024 13:17

JassyRadlett · 29/04/2024 12:55

Jimothy is our family joke name, because my eldest for a long time didn't associate it with James (despite having close family members called James) thought if Tim was short for Timothy then Jim must really be Jimothy.

I see now that it could easily have been Jimberley.

Same as, if Harry is short for Harold or Henry, and Larry is short for Laurence, does that mean that Barry is short for Barold, Benry or Baurence?!

I do remember on The Voice ages ago, Jessie J addressing Tom Jones as 'Tomothy'!
