Originally going to be called Jim after my granddad, but we've found out we're having a girl. Would this work?

Jima for a girl. If you have twins you can call them Two Jima.

@EatCrow Twins would surely be Jimini? 😏

Edited

If you've got two twins, both called Jim in honour of their lovely grandad, you could give them a joint mash-up name - like Jedward.

So Jim and Jim, mashed together, would make........ erm, Jim.

Interestingly, Ina was always pronounced “eye-na” in Scotland, yet the full names would be “eena” eg “James-eena”

See also: Mina. My Mum (91) has a friend of that name. I don't know if her full name is Williamina.

This website has a comment on this: Many boys’ names were transformed into girls’ names by adding ina, for example Thomasina, Georgina, Hughina, Jamesina, Williamina. These names might be abbreviated to Ina in later life. Williamina might become Mina. https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/guides/research-guides/forenames

Jamesina is a Highland thing. They tend to add Sina or Ina on to the end of paternal names .

My friend's mum was Donaldina.

Yes, I think it's possibly dying out now, but in days of yore lots of elderly ladies were called Ina. I only learned fairly recently that in most cases that was a shortening from Jamesina and so on.

GimmeGin · 29/04/2024 18:42

Nooooo it’s made me laugh out loud.

I had an aunt called Jamesina nn Nina, but she’d be about 90 now!

No.

quantumbutterfly · 29/04/2024 18:38

It's a difficult adjective to live with as a name, unless you're a country and western singer or a one man band.

MadKittenWoman · 29/04/2024 18:38

Laughing out loud!

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 29/04/2024 18:35

Presumably dear grandad was named James. Go with that. Jim nickname if you must

GoodVibesHere · 29/04/2024 18:34

Why are people being so mean? Jimberley is my eldest DD's name, I still love the name and so does she.

PossumintheHouse · 29/04/2024 18:29

Yeah, sure. It's gorgeous.

Said nobody ever.

Anyone else saying it in Victoria Wood's voice?

My mum was a cleaner and cleaned for a lady called Jamesina. Never heard that name before or since, but its slightly more acceptable than Jimberley 😅
I think Jaime would be better for a girl
