Thoughts on the name Crusoe

I’ve recently come across the name Crusoe and I really like it especially with the nickname Crue for a boy. Whenever I mention it to anyone they think it’s a bit weird so I was wondering what everyone on here thought of it?

I like the middle names
Crusoe Dean
Crusoe Brooks
Crusoe Jack

And sibling sets I’ve been debating are
Crusoe and Kassian
Crusoe and Koda
Crusoe and Cash
Crusoe and Florian
Crusoe and Foster
Crusoe and Juniper “pip”
Crusoe and Olympia “pia”

I think Sparrow goes best with Crusoe, then they have the option of being called Jack and Rob(inson) for when they have to live in the real world 🤣

The only redeeming feature is he would inevitably be nicknamed Robinson. That and he wouldn’t be called Cash.
Cash! What would his nickname be? On delivery? Only? In hand?

And Carry?

EmpressaurusOfCats · 28/04/2024 19:50

Crusoe and Clouseau. Endless scope for nicknames there.

NetZeroZealot · 28/04/2024 18:25

Or perhaps Cruseau ...

NetZeroZealot · 28/04/2024 18:24

Might be better if you spelled it Krusoh? Then no-one would get confused with Robinson.

NetZeroZealot · 28/04/2024 18:23

That went well, OP.

It’s a bit weird, or even very weird

As are the rest of the names on your list

You aren’t naming a 1970s detective duo

oui · 28/04/2024 18:13

Immediately no.

Branleuse · 28/04/2024 18:11

I think it works ok as a first name

Cocothecoconut · 28/04/2024 18:09

You do realise that child will be stuck with that name for a long time
( unless they change it asap)

raspberryberet7 · 28/04/2024 18:07

I like it

We clearly have very different naming styles, but Crusoe is genuinely terrible and so are all of those names in your "sibling set" list.

Whatwouldnanado · 28/04/2024 17:57

Sorry but no. The poor child will spend his life explaining/spelling his name.

focacciamuffin · 28/04/2024 16:14

I suppose it’s better than the American man I met the other day. Hoover.

I could hardly keep a straight face.

How many times is he going to have to fake laugh at "Hoover? Damn!" from some 'comedian' 😆

Heartflutterbuttercup · 28/04/2024 17:53

It's awful. Really, really naff.

Wishimaywishimight · 28/04/2024 17:52

I always think, when I rread these threads, that one day this child will be attending a job interview or ringing up to query his Sky bill or meeting his own child's teacher - do you really want him having to repeat "yes, just like Robinson" wearily, for the millionth time (while cursing his parents!)?

DJSteves · 28/04/2024 17:49

I totally misread this and thought you were calling your child Canoe

All those sibset pairings sound like a matched pair of driving ponies. A nice couple of Welsh greys, all jingling harness and dappled bottoms.

What a delightful image! All brushed to a sheen with polished hooves and wispy forelocks

I love that nobody has come on and told everyone else that they are being mean to the OP, and that it's a perfectly nice name.

Because the only person who I can think of who would conceivably name their child Crusoe is Vicky Pollard.
