Sylvia is very pretty. I don’t think your baby and her generation will be watching a lot of 70s secretary sitcoms.

Waferbiscuit · 28/04/2024 07:58

Celine. Silvia in my class was called Saliva for years and that's all I hear now.

pinkdelight · 28/04/2024 02:09

Celine. However you're spelling Silvia it still conjures 70s sit com secretary characters up for me, sorry.

namethisbird · 28/04/2024 01:31

Celine but I would spell it Selene

Pemba · 28/04/2024 01:27

Silvia

JamSandle · 28/04/2024 00:32

Celine 💖

SkaneTos · 28/04/2024 00:30

Silvia

Celine

If you are you are in the Uk then Celine as many people won’t of heard of the Greek Selene (which I personally prefer) but will have heard of Celine Dion or the brand - so your Celine shouldn’t have to often spell her name.

I do love Shakespearean Silvia but not sure it’s worth a lifetime of always having to spell it out (Sylvia really will be the go to for 99% here and she can’t even easily say “Silvia with an i” as that will just confuse so she’ll have to spell it everytime).

theduchessofspork · 27/04/2024 21:35

Of the two prefer Sylvia..

But I prefer Serena (or Selina) to Sylvia

And Cecile to Celine

(helpful..)

WildCherryBlossom · 27/04/2024 19:51

Sylvia Blanchard sounds fabulous to me. I've always liked Sylvia and Sylvie.

Celine is also very pretty but for some reason I don't see it with Blanchard as a surname.

How about Selina as a halfway between both option?

HumerousHumous · 27/04/2024 19:45

Sorry pressed too soon.
Celine is lovely. Sylvia, to me, is with the Carols, Angelas, Donnas etc.

HumerousHumous · 27/04/2024 19:43

Celine is L

Silvia will be spelled wrong 100's of times
Sylvia will make life much easier

It'll probably be spelled right! (Sylvia)

Definitely Sylvia (with Y) with Blanchard.
And Sylvie for short.

Incorrect spellings are really annoying when you keep having to spell them out.

Berlinlover · 27/04/2024 19:13

Definitely Celine.

Silvia Blanchard sounds like an old lady from coronation street.
Celine or Selena.

Or Celeste?

I don’t know why but I completely agree with you. Silvia Blanchard sounds like the name of an older woman (and I recognise your baby will one day be an older woman) whereas Celine Blanchard could be any age.

shoopshoopdedoo · 27/04/2024 19:06

Love Sylvia, like Celine

Both lovely but prefer Sylvia spelled with a Y.

BuddingPeonies · 27/04/2024 19:00

I think both work with your surname.
Of the 2 you've given, Celine.
However, if it was Sylvia it would be a tougher choice for me.

Froggy99 · 27/04/2024 18:58

Celine because for some reason I read it as Saliva and not Silvia 😂

Lamelie · 27/04/2024 18:57

Lovely names. Can I confuse you further with the following similar vibe and sound names?
Sylvie
Celestine
Seraphina

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 27/04/2024 18:50

Silvia. Although celine is sweet too. I think both sound ok with your surname.
