Brother for Effie?

GlowyJoey · 18/04/2024 20:39

Just found out we are having a baby boy in September! 💙

Any name ideas to go with Effie would be really appreciated. We want something that sounds nice with Effie but also a similar popularity/a name you don’t come across all the time but also isn’t too out there.

Is your daughters name short for something so she can use that when she gets to secondary school? Effie may not be appreciated at that age.

How about Finley or Sebastian, Fin and Seb are nice. It’s hard to say what would go nicely without knowing what Effie is short for.

If you put it on a forum, you’re going to get comments.

But okay, I vote Jeffy as a pp suggested.

I’ve put it on a forum asking for specific advice, so yes I expect answers in relation to that advice.

But thanks for your unhelpful and immature contribution, it’s much appreciated! ☺️☺️

Nope, already clarified that in a previous comment. I would also like to say again I am asking for advice on a boys name and not opinions on the name I have already given my daughter.

I’m presuming it’s short for something?

I know someone from another country whose parents used to call her Effie but it’s a nn/shortening, which she stopped using at school due to some unkind comments.

😂

Is this real? Effie? Pronounced F. E or is it pronounced differently.

I don’t think there is any need to be rude, and would just like to highlight I haven’t at any point asked for opinions on my daughters name. Your comment is simply rude and unhelpful….

It’s real ( pronounced F.E , yes) and becoming more and more popular as a retro nickname (like Kit for boys) and because of the late 2000’s TV show Skins. Have you not heard of Effie Gray, the Pre- Raphelite muse? ( short for Euphemia but point is Effie has been around a long time)

I think it’s pretty ( although not my personal taste unless as a nn) - and few people under 30 would have heard of the “effing and blinding” thing so won’t cause her any embarrassment at school.

Effie and Blindie?

Hmmm probably not...🤔

Zack sprang to mind immediately for some reason? I think a good match with Effie would be another nickname type name but not necessarily another “ie” ending name.

Or maybe Max, Bram, Heath, Kit ,Lev, Ray, Finn or Rex - something short and snappy that could be a nickname but is also often used on its own.

Is Effie short for something? Euphemia / Ophelia? If so then you could look along similar lines for a name for her brother.
if it’s not shortened then maybe something like Albie? Or Harry?

No, not short for anything. We had looked at the longer forms but we didn’t particularly like any of them so stuck with Effie in the end! Aware that it’s not to everyone’s taste but equally I think that’s the case with every name ☺️

That being said we wouldn’t be against using a longer name for baby boy if we found one we liked, but I do also like more nickname-y names like you’ve suggested.
