...Cedar or Cameo.

Whether it's a boy or a girl

Now that's two of the most unusual names I've heard for a while. Whaddya think?

If you're thinking of Skyler, you have to go the whole hog and spell it Schuyler. Skyler looks like a proprietary name for lifts or escalators.

I find Cameo the more ridiculous of the two. Plenty of names are nature-inspired, so Cedar, although it wouldn't be my own choice is in theory no more strange a choice than Lily...

But Cameo. That makes me think of a bit part. My name is bit part.

Oh we have already decided and agreed, it's a definite- even with Seeker's scary story threat!

MiL loves the name (she is a bit of a bohemian hippy).
My mum hates it. Yes, we got the silence down the phone. Just as she hated dd's name (Aphra) but has now obviously got used to it .

Name is Skyler btw . Its pretty popular in America I think but quite unheard of here. We like Sky as a nickname too.

cedar quite sweet for a girl (who lives in an eco house with long red hair) otherwise they are horrible esp cameo

Depends where you live, I guess. As a teacher in Hackney, I wouldn't bat an eyelid if I saw Cedar (might think ooh nice name) or Cameo on a register.

But then my daughter has a very unusual name and I am about to call my little boy something strange too...

I know a Cedar. It's a family name. It sounds a bit odd, but you get used to names, don't you.

My neice called her kitten System because she liked the word. But there is a big difference between a kitten and a baby......!

I still like Cedar this morning. My favourite names are the nature inspired ones, and I'd never heard of Cedar but think it's nice.
If you want nature names it's difficult to find boys names. Girls can have flower names easily.
Cameo I don't like however.

Seeker, my name is perfectly dull and i always have to introduce myself twice. I don't know why this is, maybe my accent, but i've never been bothered by it.

I always think of this when I hear the word Cameo. It would be very cruel to call a child after Larry whathisname.

Cedar is quite nice, actually, although I wouldn't be brave enough.

The difference between Cedar and Hazel or Fern is that if you are called Hazel or Fern, nobody's going to say "What was that?" "How do you spell that?" "Sorry, didn't catch that" "That's unusual" "Oh, I've never heard that before" "Cedar - like the tree?" or some variation on the theme every single time you introduce yourself for the rest of your life!

Dragonbutter - I suppose it's not really is it? But when she first said it I misheard it as Cider. So when she said no, Cedar, I thought oh it's not too bad.

But I still can't get the image of the red codpiece out of my head with Cameo. Must be my age.
