Not particularly popular at the moment so wondering what springs to mind for people.
Also liking Amber, so clearly have a thing for two syllable 'Am' names. Any other names to throw in the ring?

Amaryllis!

sprigatito · 28/04/2024 12:04

I've never met an Amy who wasn't a faux-sweet, poisonous witch, so it's a no from me.

rosemarylavendar · 28/04/2024 12:01

I find Amy exceptionally plain and dislike Amber.
Amelia?

Sweeties1989 · 19/04/2024 19:42

I think names like amy and ben are very 90s but also were so popular there was 3 in my class call amy. But its not awful. Id probably spell it Amiee

Grazyna80 · 19/04/2024 18:06

Love Amber , Amy is great too

35andThriving · 19/04/2024 17:47

A lovely name. It reminds me of the little girl in Fly Away Home.

fridaynightdinner12346 · 19/04/2024 17:40

It's a lovely name. Simple and classic. And actually not many called it!

miniaturepixieonacid · 19/04/2024 17:32

I love Amy and like Amber.

Also love Amaya which is on similar lines but maybe more contemporary than Amy, if that is something that bothers you.

MummySleepDeprived · 19/04/2024 17:06

I am Amy, age 40, and from the tail end of the name trend. I'd love for it to make a comeback, not because I love the name (I don't) but to add more age ambiguity on CVs as the original Amy cohort ages into the Barbara and then Dorothy age!

So you have my blessing 😀

Whatthefrance2024 · 19/04/2024 16:25

So boring! Ambers nice

socks1107 · 19/04/2024 16:21

I have an Amy and it's a beautiful name

Firsttimebabymama · 19/04/2024 16:11

I wanted Amy for my girl due next week but was devoted. I think it's lovely

theduchessofspork · 19/04/2024 08:43

Amy is ok, I just find it a bit nothing-y

Amber I am not keen on, never sure why.

Amelia is very overdone

Emmie as a nn for Emerald maybe?!

Holstomorrow · 18/04/2024 21:15

I love the name Amy

Amiable · 18/04/2024 21:12

Love the name Amy... my MN name is a play on my real name... GrinGrin

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/04/2024 21:08

Both lovely.

I also like Amalia and Amelie

FrogletandMe · 18/04/2024 20:55

Amy and Amber are both lovely.

Alison / Alice / Alexandra with the shortening of Ali would be my suggestion. I like Alison a lot at the moment. I think because it's rare for this generation and it was the name of my aunt, who I adored growing up.

chocmatcha · 18/04/2024 20:37

I know two really nasty Amys so its put me right off. Shame really. How about Aimee?

KirstenBlest · 18/04/2024 20:35

I like Amber even though it's not the same type of name as most I like,

RuthW · 18/04/2024 20:34

Love Amber. Not so keen on Amy but a decent name.

shoopshoopdedoo · 18/04/2024 20:27

Really like Amy! Agree that it kinds of seems sweet and strong, modern and classic at the same time. I’m not so keen on other spellings.

Amber is nice enough but prefer Amy.

TrustPenguins · 18/04/2024 16:51

I know of 3 Amy's - aged 45, 25 & 10.

I like the Aimee spelling.

Amber is nice too.

Other suggestions:
Amelie
Amelia
Amara
Amaya
Amira
Amanda
Amila

CKN · 18/04/2024 16:51

My daughters name and it’s perfect for her 😍

HerculesMulligan · 18/04/2024 16:47

One of the nicest people I've ever known is an Amy. It's a great name!

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/04/2024 15:56

chillichutneysarnie · 18/04/2024 15:51

Same here there were so so many Amy's and Aimee's at my school and it's the only thing that could put me off.
I suppose being an 'off cycle' Amy would make it slightly different though. Hmm

It won't be the case for this generation though.

According to Dark Greener Amy was the 285th most popular name in 2021. So it's not extremely rare, not like calling your daughter Janet, for example, but definitely no longer a commonly used name.
