We have almost decided on the name Rosie for our baby girl. However, my husband has suggested Rosalie which is more unusual and has lots of nickname options. Which one should we pick?

We also like Rose but it doesn’t work with our surname.

Rosalie sounds like a full name and not just a diminutive. I knew a Rosalie very many years ago (only one I’ve ever met) and she was a lovely warm and friendly girl who smiled a lot.

Rosalie with Rosie as a nickname. Then she can use either.

Your surname isn’t West is it?
I knew someone who changed her name by deed poll after a killer with the same name hit the news.

Rosalie is lovely. That's the one!

Mayhemmumma · 18/04/2024 18:14

Rosalie

Oh I love both! If pushed though, I'd choose Rosalie

RobbieisWright · 18/04/2024 10:18

Rosie

Both are lovely. She'll probably end up Rosie anyway

beanbagluv1 · 17/04/2024 23:15

Rosalie!

Utterly gorgeous

This.

I think Rosalie will give her more options when she is older. She will probably be called Rosie day to day when she is young anyway but then have a longer more formal name if she wants to use it
Rosa is also lovely.

PlipPlopChoo · 17/04/2024 22:52

Ross

daffodilfan · 17/04/2024 22:48

I know of a teenage Rosabella.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/04/2024 22:26

Rosalie is more timeless and more elegant sounding imo too. While it’s growing in popularity it shouldn’t date her as it’s never been close to the top 100.

Rosie is quite trendy - it was rare as a given name before 30/40 years ago (any older Rosie’s would likely be a nickname). I find it a bit cutesy sounding too, but that’s personal taste.

Cas112 · 17/04/2024 21:09

Rosalie, people will probably nickname her Rosie anyway

Yokaiwatch · 17/04/2024 21:05

Rosie is beautiful. Rosalie reminds me of twilight (which isn’t necessarily bad) but Rosie is the nicer imo

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 17/04/2024 21:04

Have you considered Rosa?

Dollenganger333 · 17/04/2024 21:03

Rosalie is lovely.

Moreteaandchocolate · 17/04/2024 21:03

Rosie is gorgeous. Rosalie I would personally find a bit frilly as an adult. I love shorter names where the legal name is the one you’re known as day to day.

BinkyBeaufort · 17/04/2024 21:02

Rosalie is delightful and gives options.

Tomatoblush · 17/04/2024 21:00

Rosalie is beautiful

PrincessOfPreschool · 17/04/2024 20:59

I think Rosalie is a bit fussy, much more so than Rose which is very elegant. Does Rosa work with your surname? There's also Rosanna in the Rose name category!
